Your neck is a very warm spot, plus the kitten can hear and feel your pulse there which is reassuring. If you prefer, create a warm bed for her with blankets and a heating pad on "low" temperature. Eight weeks is young for a kitten to be separated from Mom and littermates. It is depending on you to keep it cozy.

I have 5 cats, the oldest 7 yrs, the youngest, 6 weeks, and they ALL did the chin thing...I think it's a safe, warm, feeling your breath thing...

I think it's a comfort thing. Mine's about 2 or 3 moths too. She does it too. Mines worse she wakes me up 2-3 times doing it at night. She also licks and nibbles.

It must hear or feel something there that makes it feel safe. I had a cat that did that too. It feels kind of neat, the purring and the hair tickles your neck, and you have a little oven right there.

It's kinda young to be away from it's mother, maybe it's lonely and just wants to be close to the "parent"figure in its life. That and its warm there.
