I eat pretty healthy but when I want to curb a craving I mix ice a bannana and some strawberrys and plain nonfat yogurt as a smoothie. Will this make me gain weight or is it just the smoothies with added sugar that are whats bad?

The smoothies with the crazy amounts of sugar are what you need to stay away from. It sounds as though the smoothie you make for yourself is pretty healthy, though, so just stick with that!

Smoothies are very healthy...My favorite is called an Orange Sunrise...here's what I put in it:

5 Ice cubes
8-10 frozen strawberries
6-8 pieces of frozen pineapple
1 banana
Orange juice (I don't measure it, maybe about 1.5 cups)

It's delish. Smoothies are great because they are non-fat (forget the yogurt, it's not needed), full of vitamins and they're very portable. There is sugar from the fruits but not enough for any concern. Smoothies are a tool to help lose weight, not to make you lose weight...there is no food that makes you lose weight. Just never add sugar to your smoothies - some places do and that is very bad...there's plenty of natural fructose from the fruit.

Overall it's not a bad smoothie. Strawberries and bananas have lots of natural sugar - but in the grand scheme of things - they add healthy things as well and it's a better smoothie than those with extra sugar.

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.

I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.

It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.

If that's all your mixing together then you're making the right kind of smoothie. Try to make small portions of it though, because portion size is key in losing weight. The smoothie that you're making has fruits and dairy in it, which is perfect =]

One quick way you can make your smoothies work even harder for your weight loss goal is to add a bit of soluble fiber, like Metamucil or Benefiber. You could also add flax seeds for an extra boost of Omega 3 essential fats...

You know that was my biggest problem. I love smoothies.

There is a thing called "Too much"

Smoothies are okay but only occasionally and the portion size has to be small.

That type of smoothie sounds perfect. I think it is the smoothies you can buy at restaurants, etc...that are loaded with calories. Remember if you make it you can control what goes into it.

Anything you eat will make you gain weight if you eat enough. Bananas are real good for someone trying to gain weight. But your recipe is a good nutritious one as long as you don't go overboard.
