Do I detect a subtle hint of religious-flavored sarcasm here? If not, I'd guess this would be posted in the astronomy section. In answer to your question, I too believe that the earth orbits the sun, on account of certain fundamental laws of physics and the sun being hugely more massive than the earth and so on and so forth. Also, as you say, I haven't seen any evidence to the contrary.
(I suppose it could be technically argued that the sun and the earth both orbit the center of mass of the two bodies, if I remember my physics correctly, but since the earth is so much less massive than the sun the difference between this assertion and my first is rather trivial.)
But also, as you say, there are those with differing viewpoints, backed up not, perhaps, by observation and experiments and logical methodology, but by faith in the words of others whom they feel (justifiably or otherwise) have some measure of authority on the subject.
I don't think I'll ever understand these people.

I think that some people are being a little rude to you . I think the Earth orbits the Sun. There was a time, as I'm sure you know, when popular religious thought was that the Earth was the center of everything and the sun revolved around the Earth. Times have changed, and people are listening to scientists in this regard, rather than priests. Perhaps this was your point?
Isn't progress nice?

Well let's see. The earth orbits the sun, or the sun orbits the earth. Why do I try to answer all these hard questions for. Let's see, if I say the earth orbits the sun, then he wants to know why I said that. If I say the sun orbits the earth, he also wants to know why I said that. Now my faith says Ra is in the underworld at night, so we pray for the Apophis will not hinder him to rise in the morning.
GOT IT ! Neither. Ra (sun) rises on his own.
Come on, what kind of question is this ?
Science says earth orbits the sun.
From the laboratory: The sun and every other planet could be said in perspective to orbit the earth "if" we calculate that the earth twirls around on it's axis each and every day, or 360 degrees. Earth orbit around sun equals 360 degrees each "year."
(year equals 365 days of which each day we travel a little over a degree in "perspective" of the diameter we travel per year around the sun)

The Holy Bible is a GEOCENTRIC Bible because it states that God created the stationary world on the 1st day and it was not until the 4th day that the sun and moon were created.
"He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing "(Job 26:7).
"The LORD (JESUS) reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the LORD is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished (stabilized), that it CANNOT BE MOVED" (Psalm 93:1).
"Fear before him, all the earth: the world also shall be stable, that it be not moved" (I Chronicles16:30).
As usual the long tenacles of the Jesuits have reached out and stolen the glory and truth of God's Word. Oh, but what you learned in school MUST be true. Ha, tis to laugh.
Believe what you're told like good little boys and girls. No critical thinking for you! Run along with your little dumbed down selves, I hear your momma calling (I hear she evolved from a monkey), it's time for another story that you will soon believe to be true.

There are "people with differing viewpoints" and people who know the facts. Good that you mentioned this because it is exactly like the evolution issue. The earth orbits the sun and no amount of democratic indulgence in differing viewpoints is going to change it. Those who believe in flat earth, geocentrism, and creationism are wrong. Pure and simple. Recognition of alternate views notwithstanding.
Yank, are you equally willing to admit the foolishness of denying evolution? It is just as well established.

The earth orbits the sun, it has been observed doing so, and God designed it to do that.
