I recently got a guitar but I don't practice often cause of the huge hassle it is to find good lessons or sites. I also don't know where I can get good books or do I know a lot of people who would have any idea. I heard that I should try to learn playing guitar by myself then get a teacher, thats a challenge in and of itself. I already know that its gonna take a while to learn. What should I learn first to get the wheel turning?

Get a beginners guitar book, one that comes with a cd. Learn the basic chords ( there will be a chart) That's a good place to start. Also check with YOUTUBE... theres alot of lessons on there, just type beginners lessons in the search bar.

Practice, practice, practice!

Find a book that is easy for you to follow and understand. Hal Leonard Publications prints some basic guitar lesson books that, in my opinion, are quite informative and easy to follow. I like the Hal Leonard books, but they are by no means the only good books out there. Go to a guitar store and skim through a few different ones. Pick one that you like. Most lesson books also come with CD's for you to learn from and practice with.

Set up scheduled practice times and stick to them.

It shouldn't take long, and you'll be through the basic guitar books, and by that point you should have an idea as to what style of playing fits you and what you would like to focus on.

Most importantly, have fun. After you practice the lesson(s) of the day... goof around, try to learn songs by ear, play chords that you think sound good together, try to notice patterns on the fretboard, and make up songs. You probably wont write the next beatles song, but you dont know until you try, right?

Good luck young padawan.

1. learn the name of the strings E-A-D-G-B-E
2. try to learn these 5 chords C-A-G-E-D
3. learn the fretboard numbers like 1st fret, 2nd fret 3rd fret,

once you learn how to play thise five chords buy FRetboard Logic its the best, but start simple stick to mastering those 5 chords. the rest will follow, but be patient and practice practice practice
