Hi my Max is a sheltie as well and he makes us spoil him.
Nope it's not impossible to love them to much and I can imagine how you must feel thinking of leaving your Madison with a stranger or in some kennel.
Don't think I'd like that either, is there any way you can take her with you, that would solve your problems.
Give her a hug for me.

My dogs are family. I've rarely taken a vacation without them.
It is possible to love a dog too much if you don't also give them the leadership they need and the exercise and structure to be a wonderful dog. I spoil my dogs in some ways, but in other ways they are expected to be very well behaved and ambassadors for their breed.
My first dog was a Sheltie and she was a great dog. I learned a lot because of her. I took her almost everywhere with me including on some of my dates when I was in High School. If a guy didn't like her, I got rid of him. I showed her in obedience so she was super well trained and not obnoxious at all.

You are normal...I miss my dogs when I go on vacation as well. I always make sure that I take a picture along and I generally call the pet sitter at least once a day to make sure that everything is okay.
Madison is gorgeous!!

Beautiful pic. Border Collie? Loving an animal is like loving your children, (as our pets are our children) Some people chose to have pets instead of kids and there is nothing wrong with that at all. You can't leave your kids behind when you go on vacation, so why would you leave your loving pets. I wouldn't even be able to put mine in a kennel, What, it's like jail to them, being put in cages. Madison is very lucky, to have a great owner who really loves and cares for her.

You should investigate vacations that you can bring your dog with you. There has to be a travel service that is pet friendly. You can bring your dog and stay at motel 6's as they allow you to keep your pets in your room I had a Sheltie, a male all white with a black mask over his eyes, Of course they name it Bandit, I got him as a rescue and he traveled around in early September 4 years ago through the Ozarks and I was able to keep him in my rooms at motels. Shortly after that I placed him in a home that had 2 other shelties.

NO, it is not possible to love your dog too much. When you take on any kind of animal, you are supposed to love it and care for it. It is kinda like having a kid, you can never love your kids too much. It is the same with a pet. I have two kids, a pit bull, and a cat and I love them all with all my heart. So, no you are not crazy or overloving you dog, you are doing great.

Speaking as the proud owner of the most spoilt JRT in all creation, I say "NO!" LOL! Unfortunately I only had 11 years with him (he developed terminal cancer,) but I have peace of mind knowing that I couldn't have loved him anymore.
So no, you can definately not love your dog too much. If anything, most (but not all) really nasty dogs should have gotten more attention or love, 'cause they wouldn't have ended up like that if they had!

It's normal. I miss my dogs whenever I'm on vacation and I constantly take them in the car with me. The dog has a nice name, by the way :)

No, I have 4 dogs that I love dearly and they are all treated like family.. But my chihuahua is like another one of my children. He is soooo rotten. If he hears the sound of someone kissing he comes a running and climbs and digs until he has worked his way right in the middle of who ever is kissing and gets his kisses in, he is soo hilarious. When I tell him I love him he gets so excited and gives kisses, it's like he understands what I'm saying. I have never had a dog like him. When he dies, it will near kill me.
