It will help if you know a LOT. Many of the good players want you to know about the greens, hazards, distances to green and hazards, and what club they should use. Some golfers just want you to carry the clubs. If you know a lot you will be able to get good tips.

I saw a job posting for caddies at the Wynn Golf Course here in Las Vegas. You were REQUIRED to be a 5 handicap or lower, and had to prove it.

yeah i was a caddie at my local club and i caddied for Kevin Keegan once. he asked my opinion only when he was in deep rough or trees. any other advice i offered was either ignored or overruled. He was stuffed and heard him say it was the caddy's(me) fault. the other player said "nah Kev, you're just sh1te" Oh how i laughed

You have to have knowledge of the game. You have to know the person's game you are caddying for. You do way more than just carry the bag. You have to know the course where the golfer is playing. You got to know pin placements and yardages. There is more to it than what is seen on tv.
