The pill is one of the most effective reversible methods of birth control. Of 100 women who use the pill, only eight will become pregnant during the first year of typical use.* Fewer than one will become pregnant with perfect use.** Maybe slightly less effective for overweight women.

The effectiveness of birth control pills depends entirely on how they are used. While the stated effectiveness is 96-99% in reality this rate is much lower, around 87%. The reason for the difference is owed entirely to user habits. Taking the pill at different times of day, missing days or skipping pills all decrease the effectiveness of birth control pills.

No, taking one birth control pill will not help prevent pregnancy. When a woman begins taking birth control, it can take up to 3 months before it is effective in regulating hormones. It has to be taken at the same time every day during those three months for the maximum effectiveness. Taking one pill, one day will do nothing for you. If you want to have sex you should use a condom. A condom will prevent pregnancy. It will prevent STDs. It only takes one sex session to possibly become pregnant or contract an STD. I mean, aside from HIV, AIDS, or pregnant, you could get Herpes which NEVER GOES AWAY. You're boyfriend might complain that he doesn't like condoms. He might say it doesn't feel the same. There are many condoms out there that are ultra thin or are extra lubricated or warm up when put on. Try them all! You have to stand up for yourself on this one, do not let him talk you into having sex without a condom or using this birth control pill method you asked about. If you don't want to get pregnant, put the condom on before his penis is close to your vagina. An erect penis emits pre-ejaculate which can get you pregnant. Having sex without a condom and "pulling out" before he comes can get you pregnant. You being on top without a condom can get you pregnant. You get my point. Use a condom. If neither of you can buy them because you're too embarrassed then you shouldn't be having sex.

they are pretty safe for the average woman. What adds to risks is if you have a family or personal history of breast cancer, strokes or blood clots. Like my mom had a stroke because of blood clots when she was on the pills at 23 years old. She decided to have her tubes tied and burnt instead. She also has cells in her breast that could possibly become cancer in the future, the drs are monitoring them so that is a family history of breast cancer which would put me at a higher risk of complications.
