I recently joined a gym. You get one free session with a personal trainer and in my session he did show me how to use 3 or 4 of the pieces of equipment. He wanted me to sign up to have a personal trainer on a monthly basis but it is too expensive for me. So is there a book or website that could tell me all about equipment found in most gyms and help me plan my own workout?

The people that run the gym should show you for free; at my gym it is their priority that we are taught to use the machines correctly otherwise OSH is all over them if someone has an accident. Try asking the recepetion if you could get someone to give you a quick 15 minute tute. Sorry; I don't know of any books that could help you =(

no, but there are probably signs on all the equipment, telling you how to use each one.
