Prayer is like having power. The little one does is the little power he or she has. It is like being married and when you commuicate well, your relationship grows and stays healthy but when communication breaks down so does the relationship and hearts are broken. I find that pray is not a one way street but where divine fellowship takes place between you and the one who holds the Universe in His Hand. There is no wisdom, no knowledge, no things in secret, no things known or unknown that God will not reveil to those who desire to seek his Face and not His hand. He knows our hearts desire and as a Father who loves His child, it blesses his heart when His children come to Him, telling Him of their love for him. He will do anything. There is no need to great ot a mountain to high that God will not move on our behalf, Why? Because He loves us unconditionally. He has the answers, He is able to do abundantly beyond all that we ask and think, only as we come to him with humble hearts. But when we allow other things to rob us of this time of devotions, we are being rob of the most valued and the most of precious time with the One whom we will spend eternity. In His love..

I have a note book with people's names. Some are from a long time ago....chat room 'friends' from AOL. I've lost contact but I include them daily. I also have names of kids in my Sunday school class and those from long ago. I have friends, family, people I hear about...they are all prayed for daily at 12 p.m. Mon - Fri...Saturday morning and Sunday evenings. When I'm walking my dog, I'll go by a house and just stop and say a quick prayer for the folks that live there. If I see or hear something that could use a prayer, I'll do a quick one...someone on the news, passing by an accident....makes no difference. One doesn't have to use fancy words to pray. Me and the Lord have a lot of conversations...on my m/c, in my van, walking...
I remember on my last ship, USS Nimitz CVN-68, a few minutes before taps (10 p.m.) I'd hear the Chaplain over the 1MC (P.A. system), "Good evening Lord, Chaplain Cook here on the USS Nimitz in the Mediterranean. We've had a good day with no injuries.....etc etc..." Nothing fancy there. Even the nastiest mouthed sailor will call out.."HEY! PIPE DOWN, THE PADRE'S GONNA PRAY!" No one filed a grievance and no one complained about being "forced to listen to that religious crap"...hmmmm
OK, I'm off my soap box.

Yes I do. I pray almost all the time. I don't get on my knees and pray constantly that's not what I mean. I talk to God on and off all day long. I pray for my family, my friends, the country, the men and women in the service protecting our freedoms(especially my niece and her husband who are in Iraq right now). I pray about household finances, I pray about the best way to care for my patients when I am at work. So yes I pray but it is more conversational type prayer than formalized prayer. You asked why I pray becasue I believe that the Lord hears the prayers of his people and listens to their needs. I don't have the answers as to why bad things happen to good people etc. but as a believeing Christian I pray.

I pray daily, if not hourly (at least the hours I'm awake) and sometimes it seems our prayers are not answers. This is WRONG. He answers every prayer but it may not be the way we see it.
A good way to look at things is exactley what I'm doing right now, using yahoo answers. I (the prayer) may answer the question the way I see it. But another person (God) may answer it differently, and getting the best answer.
Now another question is why pray? God knows what we think, so doesn't that take the place of praying? NO! You pray to tell Him thanks and telling him what's on you're mind. This shows you are open to conversation, and God will appreciate it by you not ignoring him.

I pray short prayers as I see a need or think about an issue or someone. Why? Because I know from personal experience that God has answered many, many prayers.

I pray. I do it for a lot of reasons, I pray for others, my family, myself, If I'm in distress, If I'm happy, If I just want to be thankful. There are about a hundred reasons why I pray, and none not to. It brings me closer to God, Jesus and all those I love.

Absotively!
1Th 5:17 Pray without ceasing.
When we pray we are in the DIRECT PRESENCE of Almighty God!
Who better to have on your side??????
Rom 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God [be] for us, who [can be] against us?

No. I'm more or less agnostic with a heavy bent towards atheism. My belief is that we cannot and will not know whether or not there are supreme beings, and as such I live my life independently of those beliefs.
Prayer can still be helpful to many people as a form of therapy, in a sense, as it can give some people peace of mind. It just doesn't do anything for me personally and since I don't necessarily believe in a supreme being(s), I don't, but if you believe it will help you then you most likely should.
The important thing is to make up your own mind about what is important.

My life has been amazing since I made daily prayers part of my life. For instance before if I tried to solve a problem myself, after much ado, My problem was somewhat solved with a lot of rough edges. When I gave my life to Christ and let him solve my problems, they were absolutely solved with no backlash or hard feelings. I am one of many that pray not only for our needs but for other people with problems and they don't even know it.

Of course, because it keeps me sane, i need to know there is someone in control, that its not only me who wants control and organization, and that i dont have to risk my life every second relying on someone else. I mean if a car crashes, sometimes its not the result of the driver, the brakes could have failed, the tires could have gone pop, an axel could have fallen off...and non of these things are in my hands...i need them to be in someones, and subsequently they are and im so glad cause id go nuts. im on my way to becoming ocd, no kidding so now i have someone to keep me calm, and who will eventualy take me from a world of probability and risk into somewhere better; and its like asking you why you talk to your father, i love my dad, and i would want to get to know him more, also , its like...being greatful to your mom, she indirectly gave you life, God did it directly. And like i tell my friends, believing in something is a lot better than nothing, imagine if you fall at least there is a hope of someone or something to catch you, but if you dont believe it, there wont even be the probability.
