My cat (male, about 8 years old) has had watery eyes the past few days. Yesterday, the watery went away, but instead there is a good amount of yellowish green thick stuff coming out. His nose is not wet, and it is warm, and his stomach feels pretty warm too. I'm pretty sure I've heard him sneeze a time or two, and he hasn't been acting right today. He's never been sick the whole time I've had him (which has been all his life).

My question is this: what could it be, and what can I do? I can't get him to the vet until Monday (I do plan on doing so though), but I'm really worried about him. Is there anything I can do to help him in the meantime?

Also, I'd like to mention I have noticed over the years that he does seem to have allergies, if that has anything to do with it. When he does go outside, his skin can get red, and sometimes flakes (not sure if that's the right word).

sounds like his eyes are clogged up because of the allergies..try a warm cloth over his eyes to get the gunk off other than that just take him to the vet

If you're that worried you would just take him to the vet sooner. I hate it when owners go on about how worried they are and they wait a week before doing anything about it. Cut the crap.

It could be an eye infection, maybe a scratch on the eye, herpes(not the kind ppl get), an upper respiratory infection...or other things.

Is he eating and drinking? If not, don't wait until Monday.

All that stuff about a wet/dry nose and being warm has nothing to do with an animal being sick. It's all a myth, just like why dogs eat grass when people say a dog's stomach hurts. Just so that you know...

In the meantime, DO NOT put anything into the eye. That's pretty much all you can do...leave him alone and make sure he's eating and drinking.

Oh, and all this other crap about Vaseline, and watered down milk...the milk will give him diarrhea, and don't put anything in the eye like I said.

It's not allergies...allergies does not produce green/yellow discharge from the eyes. That discharge means infection...hence the possible upper respiratory infection.

Hope this helps...good luck with the pudda.

It sounds like he may have an upper respiratory infection (which is like a cold for us). Make sure you keep him warm and dry. Watch his food and water intake and make sure he's drinking enough water to keep him hydrated. If he isn't try putting a little chicken broth in some water, that will usually get cats drinking. Clean his eyes and nose (if there is discharge) with a warm damp cloth and see the vet on Monday as soon as you can. As long as he is eating and drinking it shouldn't be a problem waiting until Monday.

I hope everything works out well!!

It doesn't seem he is throwing up, or you didn't mention whether he was eating, it just could be a cold, coupled with an eye infection.

My dog had the same thing a day ago, yellow green stuff in the one eye, so I thought it might be an eye infection. Maybe due to allergies, and the air conditioning is on these days so it could be some dust in the air irritating the eye. What I did was to get a 1/4 cup of water, boil it. Dissolve 1/4 teaspoon salt, in the water. Stir it well, and let it cool. Use an eye dropper and sterilized bottle ( available at drugstores- glass bottle). Pour the liquid in the bottle, put 2 eye drops in both eyes, twice a day. It will be gone in a few days. I did it and it worked for my dog, Whoopie, its a natural cleanser and it just works. Good luck.

Fever and coloured discharge in his eyes suggest an upper respiratory infection. He needs to see a vet and probably needs antibiotics, maybe IV fluids.

While you wait for an appointment -- tomorrow, I hope -- keep him comfortable by giving him lots of water, canned cat food if he gets it regularly (its high in water, but don't change his diet if he doesn't usually get canned food), and try steaming him in the bathroom by running a hot shower. You can wash his face with a warm cloth, too.

Dehydration is the biggest concern with cats who are sick. Pull the skin up between his shoulder blades. It should go down quickly. If it does not, he needs fluids. Enticing him to drink water from canned tuna or meat broth will help. Force feed him water and/or plain pedialite with a syringe, if necessary.

Do not give him aspirin or tylenol which can be very toxic to cats.

If you can't get him to see a vet yourself, then have a friend or family member take him in.

If you have other cats, he should be isolated from them. Clean any dishes they have shared and the floor, too.

Yss, cats can tell via your physique language which you're sick. and because they're social animals, they do care approximately contributors of their satisfaction. I even have had cats who could sit down with me on an identical time as i become sick. I actually have a cat now who does not prefer to snuggle very plenty, yet whilst i become sick with a bad case of bronchitis, she curled up via my component (the component the place my lungs have been aching) and purred. She additionally curled up next to my head when I had my expertise tooth out, and purred until the bleeding stopped. when I had a foul fever and the surgeon informed me to not use the electrical powered blanket to get heat, yet just to attend it out, she and my different cat slept on my ft, so as that a minimum of my ft have been heat.

Having cats pretty much most of my life, & knowing something
about them, that yellowish green junk sounds a LOT like a
form of INFECTION in the nasal passages to me!!
I am NOT a vet, but I have been around cats long enough
to know that when your pet(s) are sick, it;s BEST to call your
vet & talk to him/her & tell them what is going on with your cat.
In case you aren't aware of this fact: CAT'S are GREAT @
MASKING their pain; so if I were you, I'd get that kitty to the
vet's office as quickly as I could because if you don't, that in-
fection could, in time, get worse & your kitty COULD just DIE
from the infection alone!!!
Please take that sick kitty to the vet ASAP!!!

Sounds like an upper respiratory infection. The vet will probably put him on some antibiotics. Not much you can do for him at home.. get him to the vet as soon as you can get an appointment.

URTI

Upper Respiratory Tract Infection...

sounds ok now.. like a cold in people.. sometimes its viral sometimes bacteria (you cannot treat if virus)... its not a problem and comes and goes - unless it turns into pnemonia.. monitor your cat.. if he starts panting like a dog or has bloody mucous call a vet immediately even if its a weekend - they have emergency care...

feed him a bit of canned 2 times a day - chicken and rice with warm water.. (1 teaspoon canned... 1 tablespoon warm water - make soup)...

It might be allergies.

Keep him inside until you can get him to the vet. Baby him. Make sure he is eating properly, and try to get him to drink milk. Dust and vacuum your house, and wash your linens. If it is allergies, the allergens could be in your home as well.

Even if his symptoms do go away, still take him to the vet.
