Global warming is an increase in the average global temperature.
That's it. But--remember that this does NOT mean that all temperature s rise. In fact, climate changes brought about by sustained (long-term) global warming such as we are now experiencing can trigger lower average temperatures in some areas, even though the overall average is higher. And this does NOT have anything to do with seasonal changes (winter/summer) or daily changes.

Global warming refers solely to the fact that the Earth's atmosphere is warming near its surface. Simply put, it's getting hotter. The term does not imply a cause or speak to cause. The scientific community believes climate changes like global warming have occurred throughout Earth's history and will continue to occur in the future. Some evidence links global warming to solar activity; however, there are other theories as well.

Global warming refers to the increase in the average temperature of the Earth's near-surface air and oceans in recent decades and its projected continuation.
The global average air temperature near the Earth's surface rose 0.74 ± 0.18 °C (1.33 ± 0.32 °F) during the last 100 years. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concludes, "most of the observed increase in globally averaged temperatures since the mid-20th century is very likely due to the observed increase in anthropogenic greenhouse gas concentrations"via the greenhouse effect. Natural phenomena such as solar variation combined with volcanoes have probably had a small warming effect from pre-industrial times to 1950, but a small cooling effect since 1950.These basic conclusions have been endorsed by at least 30 scientific societies and academies of science, including all of the national academies of science of the major industrialized countries. A few individual scientists disagree with some of the main conclusions of the IPCC.
An increase in global temperatures is expected to cause other changes, including sea level rise, increased intensity of extreme weather events, and changes in the amount and pattern of precipitation. Other effects include changes in agricultural yields, glacier retreat, species extinctions and increases in the ranges of disease vectors.

An increase in the temperature of the Earth's troposphere. Global warming has occurred in the past as a result of natural influences, but the term is most often used to refer to the warming predicted by computer models to occur as a result of increased emissions of greenhouse gases

"A gradual and progressive rise in Earth's surface and near surface temperature subsequent to an increase in atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases"
Not to be confused with 'climate change' which is the term used to describe the effects of global warming.
Global warming can be natural, manmade, or both. The correct term for the manmade component is 'anthropogenic global warming'.

the carbon monoxide eats up the oxygen in the ozone layer, therefore, allowing more UV rays from the sun to enter the earth's atmosphere. When this happens, the earth gets warmer and heat is trapped. The average global temperature increases as a result of the trapping of heat.

The increase in the average temperature of the Earth as a result of human activities.
That distinguishes it from the greenhouse effect, which is a natural thing, due mostly to water vapor.
Global warming is the excess greenhouse effect above that from nature, that is attributable to human activity.
