My boss got me a new Dell Laptop with Vista and Office 2007 preinstalled. I hate it. I took the Laptop home and now want to reformat the entire HD and then install my own copy of XP I have a factory disk with XP on it. I also have my own Office XP disk to install once I get XP running. I have tried to boot from the XP install CD and it wont work. This is BS!! I am going nuts. Help!

BTW...I dont care about losing current files, programs, etc. Remember, its a new Laptop with virtually nothing on it. I am hoping to reformat then install XP without having to call Dell and try to deal with them.

SEt the BIOS boot sequence to Boot from CD first..
Get a bootable Windows CD and when prompted to format partitions, select the partition where Vista was and install Xp in a new partition and u should be done....
Seek help of the system guys for any help, since it can void the warranty if u tamper with a purchased original OS copy...

Do rate if it helped

Is the problem that you can't get it to boot to the cd, or that XP won't install once it's booted? If your XP CD is not an official Windows XP disc (meaning it's a restore disc of some sort for another computer), then it won't work, you'll have to buy a full version of XP. If the problem is that the computer just won't boot to the CD, and you do have an actual Windows XP full install disc, then you probably just need to change the boot order. It's usually F12 when the computer boots on a dell. Look up in the top right hand of the screen when you turn on the laptop, press the F12 (or whatever key changes the boot order) and select the CD ROM drive.

If the laptop belongs to the company, then have them make the change since its new. Dell offers a complete XP disk, they can walk you thru this and not void the warranty

Simply boot your computer to the windows xp cd, when you get to the partitions screen where you have to select where you want windows xp installed, press D to delete your C drive, then create a new partition, format it then install windows xp. I have a guide for doing this in my forum.
