A gift (something from his registry or a nice frame or household item), a card, or both. If you weren't invited, I'd just send a card.

you do not have to send him anything, gifts are never required for a wedding whether you can go or not, whether the person is your boss or not.

send him a nice card.

A small thank-you, maybe a gift cert to somewhere he/she likes- store or restaraunt.

were you invited? if so, and you can't go, then why buy anything? if you want to still get him something, look at the registries.

Well, if they are registered anywhere, you can get them something you can afford from their registry list.
