One thing I've noticed about humans: No matter what they believe, they try to pass that belief on to others. And when that doesn't work, they tend to think that the other is somehow lacking.
I'm not saying this is true of everybody, or that it applies only to one type of person. But it does seem to be fairly widespread. I would tend to say the atheists here are no different than anybody else.
That said, I would feel better if people would stop telling me I'm an idiot or mentally ill because I believe in a higher power.

No.
"they need to get a life"- Yeah because raising what you think are legimate points about the laws and beliefs and practices that define human existence is so "stupid".
Honestly, why are people so PC about religion? Just think about the craziest beliefs you know (satanism, branch davidians, mormonism). These aren't even close to what crazy religion somone could potentially come up with. Spouting nonsense and not having to defend it is dangerous. Spouting unprovable religion is not necessarily dangerous (although clearly it can be), but the same principle is involved. I think many atheists rightly see a slippery slope with regards to unfounded ideas going unchallenged. So they may go about it immaturely, but i'm glad they go about it.
Respect is a meaningless word. I appreciate (meaning i wouldn't change their behavior even if i could) anyone who does what's right , MORE so people who believe they don't have to and still do it.
having made my legitimate points, i will throw out that i don't believe you're an atheist. You wouldn't admire that they "don't need proof to believe something", since it kind of goes against your belief. I'm not hating or judging, just puzzled.

I think you have a point about some of the folks on this site, but the "some" that you speak of are not just of one group. There are plenty of folks on here who attack others for their beliefs, their opinions, their way of life, and anything else that can be picked apart.
I happen to be an Atheist, and I don't believe that I have ever called anyone here stupid. I don't always agree with some folks, but I don't necessarily think anyone stupid because we don't agree on one subject or another. There are plenty who put others down, and that's a shame. No one has the right to call anyone else stupid for any reason. I think we should all remember the first rule of philosphy; we have to be able to agree to disagree.

Sarah, somehow I don't think you're an atheist. Perhaps an agnostic, or a christian that's mad at god and is pretending to be an atheist, but a particular line in your question struck me as true, you're not a christian. Now, I don't know how long you've been an atheist, maybe you're new, maybe you're confused, but I have to tell you, one day you'll get past the belief that atheists attack christians... we don't do that at all. We do try to replace faulty knowledge with factual knowledge, and clarify points of contention that result from faulty teachings within certain religious sects, but most of us would be glad to let christians worship as they pleased, if only it didn't affect us.

I tend to agree that we need to accept the fact that each one seeks out answers and come to conclusions that work best for them. There are mean people in all systems of thought and belief. Meaness is the real stupid part. What is right for one does not have to be right for another. Personally I am more of an "ignostic" or an "igtheist", because unless we can agree upon an initial definition of what we are talking about when we use the word "god", we can never begin to approach a sensible discussion. To each his own...just keep it out of my throat!

actually they're both annoying really. atheists are sure god doesnt exist when they cant prove it(sorry but you guys cant do it) and christians are sure that god exists when they cant prove it either(sorry but its true and the bible doesnt help because it couldve been edited or just been made up). so both christians and atheists are annoying, well actually anybody whos bugging you in to believing or not believing things that cant be proven true OR false
Im not an atheist, nor a christian and Ive done some bashing myself on many things so I guess i shouldnt be saying all that myself. at least Im being honest about it

good for you. I don't admire believing without proof, in the real world that is called gullible. That's how people get conned by con artists. I don't attack christians but i do questioin christian beliefs because i believe that continous evaluation of our beliefs is how we know more about ourselves and our beliefs and how we know what to change as our observations change and what to hold on tighter to

How can you admire someone who is so gullible to believe anything anyone says to them, without any research or proof?
And then those gullible people want to change the law so everyone must comply to their set of beliefs which have no basis in reality.
It's like eating pickled pig's feet - if they want to do it in their own home, fine with me, but when they want to make it a law that I have to eat them also, that's where I draw the line.
Same for teaching creationism to my kids, and mandating prayers in school, and putting 10 commandments at the courthouse, and all the other stuff.
Christians have invited this current backlash by trying to force their beliefs on everyone.

Yes I do, and I agree they treat us like we are complete idiots, and don't even take the time to understand us for who we are or for what we believe. I admire that you are not a christian but are not to proud to stand up for what is right. What makes me the most mad, is that they always answer our questions with another question, or turn it around to be something mean or rood, that we never intended to be rood. Then they say oh, some christian..they are rood and tell us how to live...when they either provoked us to be rood, or take our questions the wrong way instead of actually trying to understand it. I admit, we all make mistakes, not every christian is perfect, but if one does something wrong, they convict all Christians and that is not right to me.

I'm an atheist and I have a firm rule: do not insult religious people. I never do. I never call them names and I've never truly insulted a Christian. However, I do not like to see questions spouting about how atheists should all die painful deaths and that God is out to burn them. I don't like those and I leave a comment telling the asker that I don't.
Just to put it simply: Not all atheists do that. Don't generalize. Thanks.
