Mohammad did not find Quran in a cave but it was revealed through him in different steps.
Monday, June 8, 632, in the city of Medina, Mohammad took his last breath.
About Mohammad several scholars have opined but I will reproduce only two quotes for you.........
"MY CHOICE OF MUHAMMAD TO LEAD THE LIST
OF THE WORLD'S MOST INFLUENTIAL PERSONS
MAY SURPRISE SOME READERS AND MAY BE
QUESTIONED BY OTHERS, BUT HE WAS THE ONLY
MAN IN HISTORY WHO WAS SUPREMELY
SUCCESSFUL ON BOTH THE RELIGIOUS AND
SECULAR LEVEL." Michael H. Hart "The 100: A Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History", New York: Hart Publishing Company, Inc., 1978, p.33
"..........The founder of Islam has been characterised as,
" The man who, of all men, exercised the greatest influence upon the human race."--[History of the Intellectual Developement of Europe, by DRAPER, VOL.I, pg-239]

Alif Laam Raa. A book which we have revealed to you (Muhammad) so that you may lead the people from out of the darknesses into the light by their Lord's leave to the path of the All-Mighty, the Praiseworthy." The Holy Qur'an, Chapter 14,Verse 1
The Qur'an is a Message from Allah to humanity. It was transmitted to us in a chain starting from the Almighty Himself (swt) to the angel Gabriel to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). This message was given to the Prophet (pbuh) in pieces over a period spanning approximately 23 years (610 CE to 622 CE). The Prophet (pbuh) was 40 years old when the Qur'an began to be revealed to him, and he was 63 when the revelation was completed. The language of the original message was Arabic, but it has been translated into many other languages.

The Quranic challenge
Here are the verses that mention the challenge;
Say, "If all the humans and all the jinns banded together
in order to produce a Quran like this, they could never
produce anything like it, no matter how much assistance
they lent one another." [17:88]
If you have any doubt regarding what we revealed to our
servant, then produce one sura like these, and call upon
your own witnesses against GOD, if you are truthful.
[2:23]
This Quran could not possibly be authored by other than
GOD. It confirms all previous messages, and provides a
fully detailed scripture. It is infallible, for it comes from
the Lord of the universe. If they say, "He fabricated it,"
say, "Then produce one sura like these, and invite
whomever you wish, other than GOD, if you are truthful."
[10:37-38]
If they say, "He fabricated (the Quran)," tell them, "Then
produce ten suras/Chapters like these, fabricated, and invite
whomever you can, other than GOD, if you are truthful."
[11:13]
Do they say, "He made it all up?" Instead, they are
simply disbelievers. Let them produce a Hadith like this,
if they are truthful. [52:33-34]

Muhammed did not find the Koran in a cave. He was meditating and praying in a cave when he heard the voice of God telling him to "recite" (Qura') He went back to his community and repeated the words that God had given him. This was the recitation (Qura'an) which was written down by others.
I'm sorry, I don't know his year of death - around 688 AD or so?

he becomes prophet around the age 40, and he died in his 60s. so all his prophecy was almost for 20 years, which the Quran reveled for around 20 years long. the whole Quran did not reveal to him in the cave, but it keep revealed to him for around 20 years. and we have the Islamic calendar which is now 1426. so i will assume he died 1400 years ago. and God knows best.
