Isnt is a little harsh to say that all babies (humans) are born sinful? I mean, the babies didnt do anything wrong, and still havent even start to live their lives and understand them. Also, god doesnt allow other peoples punishments be put on everyone. BTW, im just curious, so please no stupid, or sarcastic answers. Thanks.
BTW, im Muslim, and we have a totally different view of that belief. But I wanna know more about wut Christians believe.

This is not an answer to the question but rather a comment. I'm Muslim and I respect Christians and Jews (because they are People of the Book) but I find it ridiculous that Christian's believe that a child is born sinful.. That's ridiculous. The child is still new to the world. He/she hasn't committed any sins.. Think rationally people... you can't tell me that a pure and new child is sinful. You may justify that claim by saying that he is of sinful parents (Adam and Eve); the child took the fault of the parents... But I thought that your Bible stated that no person can take the faults of another?? Hmmm.... quite a contradiction... do you not think so? Let's see: Jesus died because of our sins, so we are the fault of his death... Hmmm... BUT BUT no person can take the faults of another... Also, women are punished for Eve's mistake by menstruation... Yicks! I thought no person can take the faults of another... No offense, but the Bible has been altered so many times, it has lost it's validity. It's a book of contradictions... but I still respect the true Christian men and women.

You make it sound like God wanted it this way. Though some (even many?) Christians may disagree with me, I think the whole concept of "original sin" is a little skewed. Original sin doesn't mean that babies are born having made any mistakes...instead, that all babies are born with a "sinful nature".

Here's the way I see it. Adam and Eve had two choices, trust and obey God or make your own decisions...they chose to make their own decisions when they ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. As promised, that action brought sin (disobedience to God) and death into the world and transformed people and the environment. All of Adam and Eve's descendants are now "cursed" (or if you prefer, burdened) with the knowledge of good and evil AND the responsibility to choose between them.

I agree the God doesn't allow other people's "punishments" to be put on other people...but then I don't think this is a punishment...it is a natural consequence of the decision to disobey. When Adam and Eve were given the knowledge of good and evil, their very nature, their genetic code if you prefer, was altered to include a new "sense" (the conscience if you like) that is functional at birth. It is only natural that their descendants would have the same coding.

No baby is born with the ability to make perfect choices and at a very young age, children usually choose to do something that they know is wrong. No human has the ability to be "perfect"...we will all sin at least once (one lie, one impure thought, one instance where we envy what someone else has) and even one sin separates us from God (imperfections can't exist in the presence of perfection perhaps)...this is the concept of original sin. "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God".

I would be very interested in hearing your view on this issue as I can accept that, as much as I fight against it, "religion" (rules and interpretations created by flawed humans) may still be influencing my perception in this area.

The Bible tells us that we are all born sinful; however, there does come an age of "understanding"...quite simply, a time when children also recognize right from wrong.
God sent His Son Jesus to live a perfect life and then die on the cross for us. Our acceptance of that is what gives us Eternal life. Christians and the Bible are definitely NOT saying that babies are evil or that we want everyone to be punished because of someone else' bad deeds.
Babies are a Gift from God!
What do you believe about babies?

As a Christian I don't believe that babies are born sinful. I believe that for example if a child under the age of "accountability". (When they are old enough to know right from wrong) Then they would go to heaven. What I believe the bible says is that no one is without sin, excpet Christ. Because, we are human, we will at some point sin.. and need to ask forgivness for that sin.

It is perhaps harsh sounding to say that all babies are born sinfull. I would prefer to say that they are born with a "sin nature". When Adam ate the fruit, sin entered into the world and genetically into the heart of mankind. We are all decended from Adam and have inherited, by blood and by the curse, the sin nature; as well as the knowledge of good and evil. With no knowledge of sin, there is no sin, as Paul mentions in his letter to the Romans. This is not to say that sin is not sin, but that we are not accountable for the sin and it's eternal consequences until we are able to understand right from wrong. Just as Adam, even though he performed the actions of sin, knew no sin until he was able to discern good and evil, then, having sinned, was seperated from God and cast out into the cursed world.
Thus, even though a baby is born with the nature to sin, and the ability to learn right from wrong, there is no eternal cosequence until they are able to understand right from wrong.

The second part can go into a major study of the Word. However, just briefly, In the Old Testament the children were punished to the fourth generaton, and sometimes, the entire line of decendants. We are still subject to some of these genetic curses; and just as in the sin of Adam, we, as a race of people, are still subject to the curses pronounced on Adam after being cast out of the garden.

I am no expert in Christian teachings but I can tell that you have a wrong conception of Christians. We don't believe babies are born sinful, but human beings in general are sinful. Actually, God wanted all people to be like children because they are innocent and sinless and they love unconditionally..you know what i mean?

Hope i was able to help you a little...

babies aren't guilty of anything. In fact, if a baby dies he/she goes to Heaven automatically. The reason Christians say babies are born sinful is because they are born with human nature....since they are baby humans, and human nature is evil. Children are not held accountable for their sins. In order to be held accountable, one must be of the age of accountability which is mentioned in the Bible. That age isn't a set one for everyone, as we all mature at our own rate. When we are old enough to work out our own salvation using free will, then we can be held accountable. Wow...I just realized how confusing that must sound to someone who's not a Christian. Sorry, about that. I'm really not trying to make God look bad,so please don't hold my opinions against Him.

The christian perspective on the sinfulness of babies is totally in error. Even Jesus taught that when he said that heaven is made of beings as innocent as children (I'm paraphrasing).

Some christians are often dirty-minded hypocrites so you can only chalk such a belief to this attribute.

Yes I used to be catholic, but the hypocricy of that belief system ate holes in me.....so then I started to study many different religions (including Islam whose teachings in the Quran were very powerful and very clear, as well as various Native American religions which bear a striking similarity to most of the mono-theistic religions already popular in the world today).

Point being - there's more to things than our puny teachings and understanding can account for, so we'd better start using the brains God gave us to try to make the world and make life a better place for all of us, and stop using hatred.

It's all about legality. When we are born (because of the fall of Adam) we are born under a broken law. It's the law of sin and death. So no matter how good we think we are, we're still considered sinful until we accept Jesus as our personal savior and then we're moved from one law into another in an instant. It's the law of the spirit of life, which comes through Christ Jesus. That's what Paul was talking about in the book of romans chapter 6 when he made the analogy about a woman being bound to her husband and committing adultery. He wasn't talking about actual marriage, but being bound by one law and being made free by the other. That's a quick attempt to explain something every thorough.

Truly all flesh is born sinful. I think that babies are innocent until around 3-5 years of age when they start to know right from wrong (this must be the time when they pluck fruit from the forbidden tree).

When someone knows right from wrong they are able to make decisions. It states in the bible that kids are to obey there father and mother. around 3-5 years old children can start to choose and they can choose to obey or not.

Sin starts to set in around this age because the knowledge the children are gaining and their ability to choose.
