For all of the christians who don't believe in instrumental music in worship...do you think it would be any different to go to a benefit for a cemetary and have a few people singing a 'church' song with instruments being played? I grew up in a christian church and had to go to a benefit for a cemetary and I know the church members do not believe in using instruments...but isnt it the same thing if you have alot of people together and the are singing and using instruments? I am not saying that I think it's wrong or right...I dont go to church anymore...just wondering what you think. Thanks in advance!

Also, I know it wasn't an actual "church service" but I thought it was considered worship anytime you had "two or more gathered together"..what do you think?

To clarify the question...whether you are actually in 'church' or not...if you are singing a christian song...if you dont' believe in using instruments (guitars, piano, etc) you shouldn't use them at a benefit either should you?
And I said this is mainly for people who do not believe in using instruments in worship services. Thanks!

One place you can read in scripture about worshipping is Psalm 98. The people in scripture worshipped God with instruments.

The point is to Praise God in all we do. There is nothing wrong with using musical instruments after all King David in the old testament not only invented some instruments but he commanded they be played in a ceremony Honoring God.

If you don't use instruments in church because you feel its wrong, why would you use them at the cemetary. I agree with you. If I did not believe in music in church I couldn't believe in musical instruments at home either. My church has the usual piano and organ, but if I didn't believe in them there, I certianly would go home and turn on the radio or boom box, whats the difference???

Do bagpipes count as an instrument? ;-))
j/k
Can't answer. I see nothing wrong with instrumental music in worship of any sort. And don't worry about if your wrong or not, the burial service is a time for worship as well as grieving, and some denominations do actually have an order or rite of burial.

I'm not sure if I understand your question, but if you're asking whether instrumental musical pieces also count as worship, if a group of believers are worshiping together to it in some way, I'd say yes.

I have never heard of that...I have always seen musical instruments in church...organs pianos...my church even has drums and guitars. but to answer your question if a person regards something as sin (even if it is not) for THEM it is a sin. So if it was wrong to do it in church that would make it bad outside the church as well. Peace

I get bored with the music fast. I came for the word. Others need that so I just sit through it bored and then when the preaching starts those are usually the ones that go to sleep.
What a peevish little thing to find argument with. Perhaps if you spent as much time trying to find out why they do it as you do watching and criticizing you would know the answers and not feel like you are too good for church.

Jara-Lee,
There is no clear scriptural command that outlaws music in worship. There are those however who genuinely feel that it is a better praise to God to sing His praises acapella (without music). Now what's wrong with that? WE are God's creation and musical instruments are OUR creations. God loves US and not our instruments. I think that is rather beautiful!
