This is just plain and simple selling of America. They cannot export the product overseas like everything you buy at Wal-Mart. So they will import the worker in the case of Mexican Trucks.
They do not have to keep an accurate log book of HOS ( Hours of Service ) Only 4% will be checked at the border for Identification/Cargo. US Truck Drivers have to submit to a random drug screen. There is not one random drug screen clinic in Mexico.
This is about ( Special Interest = CEO's Big Business trying to turn a extra buck at the expense of people ( American Truckers ) who have worked very hard.
I know carpenters who are going out of business because they cannot compete with contractors who hire illegal workers, They do not pay taxes, Insurance, Its all cash under the table.
The Mexican Truck deal is basically the same, It's just a different dynamic.
People may be getting a break at the point of purchase, but in the long run, the American Citizen is going to be the one that cleans up the un-employed American who has lost his job, and needs Medical Care, Housing, and Food.
Selling our Jobs to overseas interest is what our US Government is about. Protecting our workforce is a last on the list. Export it, Import it. But whatever you do don't find a way to put Americans back to work.

Pep, give me a break. You know all you have to do is grease the palm of some Mexican cop and you can get out of anything. Stop acting like Mexico is a bastion of law and order. We all know differently. I've seen Mexican policemen myself take bribes. It's the way things are done down there. Nobody in Mexico respects the law; it's whoever can pay the most to get around it.
They even have a saying down there: With money, you can make a dog dance. I'm sure you've heard this, huh?

NO NO NO! Why is our government trying to strip us of our status as a sovereign nation? Because this administration is all about business, and the whole idea of us as a nation can go to hell, should it interfere with the trade and commerce ideas held sacred by the Shrub. Amazing, isn't it? Be a good citizen, and watch those who are not, and never will be, get more privileges than we do. I am sure the truckers of America that do have to follow the rules are thrilled with this.....

I don't know who the moron was but yes I agree who ever it was needs to go before a firing squad. There is so much illigalities going on that they cannot catch all of it and even the portion that comes through is a lot. As if we don't have enough drugs on our streets for our kids to buy anytime they would like anyway and that's just to mention one. Yes, bad idea

Yes, but the people who are driving in the US must have a license to drive -- just because Mexico may not enforce drivers license laws doesn't mean the US won't.
These drivers are not being given diplomatic immunity -- they still have to obey all traffic laws, have a valid license, have insurance -- etc. The only difference is where the license is issued and where the trucks are registered.

I don't like it. I usually support President Bush, but not on this issue. I think of all the safety issues that are compromised because of this idea of the president. But the country just to the north of the U.S. has truck drivers that cross the border with out any issues, maybe we will be suprised.
We could only thank President Clinton for NAFTA, which got the ball rolling for this to happen.

Let it happen. Our nation is like a senior citizen with dementia in a nursing home (its making decisions like one). The only reason it stays alive is because its on life support.
Best thing we can do is start a new goverment in waiting, a system that can produce better leaders in the mean time and take over when it collapses.

That was Bill Clintons NAFTA agreement which includes Canada, don't blame Bush for that. As for the unlicensed drivers issue, they need to have a CDL and they go through regular check points along the route.

It's not the licenses of the drivers that scares me, it's the condition of their trucks. They don't have the requirements there like we do here .... no state inspection. We've had them get up here to Houston only to have wheels fall off while they're on the freeway, or just parts from the truck fall off as they go along.
It's scary stuff.

I'm worried about the skill level of the drivers and the safety of the vehicles they will be using.
Then there is the contents of the vehicles.
A typical Bush move, bad for the country.
