Bill,
There is one lesson that unless you understand it, NOTHING in all of scripture wil ever make any sense to you. And it is revealed in this verse:
Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed man [of] the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
YOU are a SPIRIT that is temporarily housed inside a body of flesh and blood. Your body will pass one day and will rot. Your spirit will then return to God and be judged before all God's holy angels.
YOU are NOT your body! YOU ARE A SPIRIT. YOUR BODY IS YOUR TEMPORARY HOME HERE ON EARTH.
When you walk in the FLESH you sin. When you walk in the SPIRIT you are attuned to God's will for you.
Thats what your verse means!

That's not what that verse says, not in 1 Corinthians 3, and not in 2 Corinthians 3. Might want to check again, and use the KJV for the true Bible.

Actually, that verse is in Galatians
Gal 5:16 But I say, Walk in the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
The rest of your question doesn't make sense.

This verse means just what it says. Why do folks make the Bible so difficult?
If we walk in dependence on the SPIRIT we wont FULFIL the desires of the flesh is what the verse says. Where does it say anything about ASKING for anything???? It says to DO something, NOT ask.

What this passage means is that a person that walks ie lives with the grace of the Holy Spirit and tries to model ones life in Christ then ones desire for the Flesh (SEX)
will not exsist.

You are a Spirit, you have a Soul and you live in a Body.
When you get Born-Again, you (a Spirit) gets Recreated.
Your Soul and Body does not.
If you don't Renew your Soul so that you can "Walk in the Spirit", your Soul and Body will be Dragging You (a Saved Spirit) into Sin all of the Time.
When you Ascend Spiritually OVER your Soul and Body, then They have to Listen to You!
Human Beings are Deep.

I can know my husband, my children, or my parents very well, but that does not mean that I won't do things that they won't like from time to time. It's the same way with a relationship with God.
If you walk in the spirit, meaning that you not only have a relationship, but listen and follow what God wants for our lives, you can know how to avoid the temptations.

The Greek concept was that our spiritual & physical nature
were constantly at odds with each other.
Paul was telling the Church at Corinth to nurture their spirit.
In other words, to give up the temptations of the flesh.

Sorry but I think you have your verse incorrect. That is not what is said in either of the Corinthian letters in that location.
