Christians are funny. I knew the typical answer, which is that He did it to set an example. Am i missing something, or do we NOT work for six days and rest for one anymore? maybe i'm just lazy, but i rest from work on Saturdays and Sundays, working the other five days of the week (except holidays, which God allows i think).
I'm not trying to be mean, i genuinely want to know, what do these people think of the whole work 5 rest 2 pattern we have now?
Of course he could have created the universe instantly or over billions of years, and then just TOLD US He wanted us to work 6 days and rest for one! Considering He wrote a whole book telling us what to do! The illogic is staggering.
also, people have created virtual worlds. I'm not sure how long it takes, but it is possible that's all this is. Don't mean to blow anyone's mind, but think about it.

The act of creation is one of extreme pleasure. It makes no sense at all to do something so enjoyable as quickly as possible.
A better question would be: "Why didn't He go more slowly, make it last as long as He could?" There's always time to savor the result after the job is finished.
As the travel ads say, "Getting there is most of the fun!".
Think about eating an ice cream cone. You really don't want to bite and swallow immediately. You want to lick it slowly so that every taste bud is thrilled. Let it melt in your mouth so that the tongue can absorb the sweetness.
Of course, you don't want to work at it too long. The cone might melt too soon and make a mess, leaving you disappointed. There's no satisfaction in that.
Goldilocks had the right idea: not too hot and not too cold, but just right! I think I have the right answer to your question.

Not very sure, maybe he said somethings like "let there be light" and etc. and it took a while to do that to the WHOLE Earth or he made it slow motion or something and durning the evening he wanted to stop and start again the next day until the 6 days was up and the 7th day was there witch was the day when he rested so he bless that day and called it the Sabbth Day and that is why people some people work everyday, but Sunday. To rest just like God did. People don't always do that now, but they use to. When you go to Heaven ask him maybe he'll tell you the really story. Yes he does exist to the people who say he doesn't and how he got created was someday he just appeared in Heaven from what I know. I don't know if he even knows how he just appeared there you have to ask him that and see if he does know.

The entire universe was created in 10^-33 seconds, and has been expanding ever since. God however, is a mythological being and doesn't exist, so he doesn't get the credit.

If God had so desired He could have created the universe in whatever the smallest measurement of time is. I think he chose the whole six day thing and resting on the seventh to set an example for man. We are to work during the week and then take a day to rest and worship.

Yeah.. well. I'm an artist. I do something.. then I stand back and assess it, criticise it, see where it needs improvement and decide what best compliments it... invariably, the whole process always takes 6 days. Weird eh!

exactly as stated above he did it to set an example. Thats why you have to wait for your prayers to be answered. They resolve themselves in the time it takes to get a response. Thas the usual time course for most of us. If you are GWB you get a running dialogue.
