Last Saturday I noticed there was blood in my urine. I went to the dr. and they prescribed Bactrim for 5 days. I took it all exactly as they told me. At the time my urinalysis did not show any infection, so don't think it was a urinary tract infection. The bactrim seemed to stop the blood in a couple of days but now today (exactly one week later) I noticed blood in my urine again. I went to the doctor again and they did another urinalysis. Again, it showed no infection. But they put me on another antibiotic (Cipro). Should I be worried about this? I don't have burning or frequency to go to the bathroom or excruciating pain, although I do have a little cramping. The doctors seem to be dismissing it as nothing serious but I am really scared about this. Any suggestions on what it could be?

Wouldn't a kidney stone cause a lot of pain? I don't seem to have pain except for mild cramping.

'There are multiple causes of blood in urine. Some are serious, including cancers, trauma, stones, infections, and obstructions of the urinary tract. Others are less important, and may require no treatment. These may include viral infections, nonspecific inflammations of the kidney, medications which thin the blood's clotting ability, and benign prostate enlargement..'

I cannot tell you whether it is or not because the doc has a better grasp on the situation.Ones that not as sreious and honestly the doc probably can't do much about are small time infections, prosate enlargement (benign), inflamtion of the kidney. More serious one could be cancers, stones or another type of object, serious infections. But honestly if you are concerned you should let your doctor know and if They blow you off seek a second opinion

I think you need to see a urologist. It is not normal to have blood in your urine. You need to be having more tests done than just a urinalysis to find out what is going on. Probably a doctor should do at least a cystoscope to look inside your bladder to find out what you have blood in your urine, and then give you appropriate and effective treatment.

I would see a specialist a urologist and have a complete examination of your kidneys and bladder. The specialist is the best way to go. A general doctor is not the same.

Blood in the urine is always a sure sign of a warning that something is not right. If you have already been to DR.and you are not satisfied with his answers, I would immediately
seek out another ones advice and always good to get second opinion. Won't hurt to see what they have to say, !
I hope you get to feeling better!

I agree that you should see a urologist. Two antibiotic types is not unusual to try and hit whatever is causing the problem, but if this does not do the trick it is time to see a specialist to make sure that it indeed something simple.

Yeah, the one factor I can let you know is that you simply would have a UTI and also you have got to cross to the health care professional. If you are peeing blood then you could have a situation together with your excretory process.

i feel if the first doctor would have gave you the antibiotics for longer than 5 days you wouldn't be having the systems again...hopefully the Cipro is for at least 10 days...good luck...
