Dogs are pack animals.. You stick together, sleep together, eat together, hunt together, play together.. and if someone goes to the bathroom, you sit and watch them.. That's what dogs do, they hang out with you..

I trust you. Like many doggies, yours might be suffering from separation anxiety and hates being left alone for periods of time. A lot like humans.

Signs that your dog may be suffering include:

• They act with signs of anxiety, depression or excitement to any preparations you make to leave the house
• They consistently follow you from room to room when you are at home.
• When you arrive home they launch themselves at you with frantic greeting behaviour.
• When they are left alone, they bark, scratch, chew or eliminate around the house in their distress.

It is important to start training your dog to be alone early in their development.

Find your dog a comfortable area such as a crate or box, and make it their exclusive space (no kids and no adults). Allow them time to be alone in that space, and encourage them by leaving a toy or reward in their space and quietly disappearing, leaving them to their own devices. Gradually build up this period of isolation, starting with a few minutes leading to a period of a few hours.

Also, make sure that you exercise and feed your dog before you head out. A well-exercised (and probably a bit weary), well fed doggy makes a lot less fuss when you disappear that an energetic hungry one.

It is also recommended to make your entrances and exits from your residence relatively low key.

Leaving the television or radio on can also help. Dora loves watching Dr Harry and the Dog Whisperer!

If all else fails, discuss the problem with your veterinarian.

Best of luck!

Dogs are very needy, and they get lonely, and they want to be close to you. Sometimes chew toys will take care of this but if he's a new dog. Don't be forceful about it. Let them know by turning around and stroking him. I imagine he will probably be right at your feet most the time. My great Dane, follows me everywhere I turn around and I rub his ears play with him a little bit but he eventually does get tired and he knows I'm around, but as soon as he doesn't see me. He stands around waiting for me to show and I'm pretty sure your dog will do the same.

Your dog is doing what he is suppose to be doing. Dogs will follow their Alpha leader. So your dog is seeing you as Alpha. Take notice, for instance, if you are in the bathroom with the door shut, mostly likely he will laying right outside the door. He is protecting you, the Alpha, and this is a natural instinct.

Yes, he enjoys your company and wants to be with you. As others have said, dogs are pack animals, and like to stick together.

It's interesting to see how this behavior varies in dogs by age and breed -- puppies tend to follow like little ducklings, and then get more independent as they mature. Some breeds such as Chows don't tend to follow very much. Some breeds are very clingy -- many sporting dogs such as spaniels and retrievers, for example. My Chihuahua loves to spend hours in my lap while I'm on the computer, and I love it, too!

Take it as a complement -- and, you'll never be lonely with your trusty canine companion!

Enjoy!

It's normal dog behavior. They follow thier leader. The only time I'm alone in a room is when my dogs are at the groomers.

Now that I think about it, they are ALWAYS with me when I am home...even when I shower, they sit in the room...

LOL:)
Quite the opposite. He loves you, ur are his owner, he respects you and doesn't want to be without you even for a minute. So he follows you. My dog does this too. It's because we are their leaders. They follow us around because they LOVE and RESPECT us, and dont want to be without us.
Not because they dont trust us.
Try it now, if he is still following you, turn to him and crouch down, he will come to you, tail wagging, a HAPPY dog. Give him lots of pats for coming to you.

Have fun being a dog owner!
