I am going to try to fast for a week. Yes, a whole week of eating nothing. Ghandi did it, why can't I? Here's some backround information: I'm 151 pounds, 68 kilo, 5 foot 11. I'm 16, and I play cross country 6 days a week, fencing 2 days a week. Will I die from starvation, or can I go on with my normal life and not eat for a week?

You may not die of starvation, but you will have some effects from doing this - you'll probably feel very weak, lose a lot of weight, and may begin to feel very ill. May I suggest something similar, but not as extreme? The Muslim community for their observation of Ramadan fast from sunup to sundown each day. Perhaps try this for a few days? It will still let you feel the fast, while allowing you to eat at some point so you are not actually starving.

1st what is the purpose of doing this?
-to lose wt
-to be like Ghandi
-something else.
If your exercising too, it is not a good idea!!!
People can live quite a while w/o food, but not w/o water....DRINK UP!!!!!
You will not die from starvation. Being a nurse we have many pt that are NPO(nothing by mouth) for wks and are still alive. But they are getting fluids thru the IVs.
What I recommend is the MC Diet. Master Cleanse. Which I do and I exercise. It is a healthy liquid detox diet....very nutritionist and goes back to the 1940's.

It will mess up your electrolyte balance. You may not think that is something serious, but you can do permanent damage to your body and neurological system. Would you like seizures for the rest of your life? Your heart needs potassium to function correctly - did you think about that?
If you recall, Ghandi's kidneys began to shut down. That was a life or death situation, thus ended the fast.

It is a bad idea. Ghandi did it, but he still could have died from it. While a week won't kill you; you can get sick. It can screw up your metabolism. You most certainly won't be able to keep up your daily activities. Your body needs carbs and calories to function; just to think. You will probably pass out. There is a long list of medical complications that can come from this. I cannot stress how bad of an idea this is.
However if you still choose to do this, I urge you to drink 1-2 gallons of water daily and orange juice.

fasting involves eating specific things at specific times -- it seldom involves eating nothing at all. if you want to be like ghandi maybe you should research his fast more to make sure he really was not eating anything. if you are going to meditate through it that is one thing. an active lifestyle will probably demand some kind of calorie intake to keep you going.
you need to make sure you are overly hydrated. a lot of your food is mostly water too. so drink more water.

Yes it is a bad idea. You are restricting your body from nutrients, protein, and the good carbs needed for energy. DO NOT DO IT.
Just because Gandhi did it doesn't mean you should, too.

If you play cross country 6 days a week and arent going to eat anything, make sure you drink plenty of water, take vitamins, drink juices at least...just to keep your energy up.
Ps: I dont think Gandhi played cross country.

I did it for four days, but I was not doing all the stuff your doing. If your just doing it for the hell of it I would wait until the off season, you dont want it to have an effect your cross country meets.

You will gain weight and damage your body. If you have something to prove to the world, there are better ways. Most people with any sense will think you are definitely off your rocker.
