I think most people in society say they believe in god, but they don't ever give it any thought. They're far more interested in stuff like American Idol and Survivor.

You know, after the dust settles, so to speak, and all the bashing and jokes and disrespect is done, you will plainly see that society is split into two camps: those who SAY they are following Faith for guidance; and those who KNOW they have a conceptual brain and therefore must follow Reason.
So, in the end, there is really ONE group in society: Atheists. Some of them are conscious of being Atheists; others (the majority) are in self-denial and don't want to admit it.
They say that without God nothing would happen; that without God they are nothing; that prayer is important and God listens to them and answers their wishes in mysterious ways.
Well, there is no mystery. When anybody, religious or non, needs something done, he or she has to make use of Reason and follow precise logical steps, such as geting up in the morning, going to work, earn some money, buy groceries, cook, and eat. All these daily activities are not done magically by any supernatural entity, they must be done according to the logic of a thinking brain. If the brain stops thinking, the person becomes DEPENDENT for his very survival on other people who THINK for him! So much for the power of prayer.

I think that it represents a society where there are no repercussions for what you say. It is so much easier to give a truly honest answer for something when the most at stake is a thumbs up/down. On here, you can be you without a front.

I actually think, I for one am more reserved on here than I would be in public. In real life I don't pull punches, a spade is a spade, here I am more conscious of people taking offense (some have very thin skins), so I try to get my opinion across without appearing to be judgmental or disrespectful.

It doesn't represent the actual larger U.S. society in that there are a disproportionate number of non-Christian viewpoints in the R&S section. In the larger U.S. population, self identified Christians far outnumber non-Christians.
I think that the hostility is accurately represented, though. Lots of Christians are always are paranoid about some kind of "enemy threat" (even though their numbers are so much larger). Non-Christians always have to butt heads with the Christian majority. Friction ensues.

I think this is really a true representation of society. No body has to pretend or be afraid what a neighbor thinks, this some times turn out to be ugly and an other time to be real true.

No. People on the internet are free from reprisal and thus can be as rude as they desire. Or as polite as they desire. I have had people says things on here to me they would not dare to say to my face. Why? Because I am a big guy and most people would fear what I would do to them. On here though what can a person do? Report them. This does not put them in fear for their physical safety.
