OK- Let's say I have 190 photos on cd/dvd drive and put them on dvd that holds a lot more because of it's memory, do I have to save up say 500 photos on dvd drive before I can transfer them to dvd? Isn't using dvd/rw
a drawback in some ways? It used to be in audio that recording on cd/rw could only be played on that machine.

A typical CD holds 700 megabytes; a typical single-layer DVD holds about 4.5 gigabytes.

So, it would take a long time to fill up a data DVD.

But, nobody says you have to fill up the DVD-R or DVD+R. You can fill it up or you could just put two photos on there. Or you could backup whole folders onto the DVD.

Some things to ponder:
Don't use the Rewriteable DVDs or DVD-RW's. These may or may not playback on another machine, much like the example you cited above. Instead, get one-time recordable DVD-R or DVD+R.

Even if you don't fill the DVD with photos, it's not a big deal. Just burn them and move on.

No you can do it any time you want. Its just the price vs a cd or dvd. CD are low as 10 cents while DVD are still $.50 and up. At one time yes. But CD-R is almost a standard in boom boxes and so forth. You can find some that won't read them . Check the "toys" that you buy that it can read CD-R and or CD-RW/ DVD-R, and DVD-RW media. That was like 5-10 years ago it was a HUGE problem. Not so much now. Sometimes new tech causes new problems in compatibility
