Always practise your speech before you deliver it. Make sure you have written out exactly what you want to say and rehearse it in front of family, or friends, who can be a friendly, but critical audience for you.

Be prepared to rewrite the parts of your speech that you do not like, or that your dummy audience suggest you change, to help maintain the interest of your real audience.

Importantly, don't try to be a 'personality'. In other words, be yourself. People like to be entertained, sure, but don't put on a false front thinking that people don't want to listen to what you have to say. A fake personality will tend to turn your audience off - and they will focus on that more than what you have to say to them.

Try debating. It's a great tool for helping you to think in a logical, structured manner and for thinking on your feet, which all public speakers have to do from time to time. It will also teach you the skills of being able to speak only with notes, which will help you to engage your audience with eye contact.

Practise varying the tone, pause, pace and pitch of your voice according to the mood of your speech. A carefully used pause can hold interest before you move onto the next point of your delivery.

As with everything, practice, practice and practice will make perfect. Using a mirror helps, too: you can see yourself and how you look when you deliver your speech and this is what your audience will see as well.

Speak from the heart, know your material and make minimal notes--thereby avoiding the need to "read" your material.....pick a member of the audience or better yet--'plant" a friend in the front 3 rows, center---this way if you get stuck...or feel uneasy your friend can smile encouragingly at you--keeping you from making an utter fool of your self! God speed, Ace.....fear is yoiur greatest enemy

You have to find confidence in yourself, and be able to talk to a large group of ppl. gather people you know together and just try to write and recite the speach. use your sense of humor( which ill bet you have) to relate the crowd of people you will speak to. also, what ive discovered in public speaking is to find areas to look at where you will be speaking, insted of focusing in on people. if there is a wall near a person, focus on it. Then turn to a table that is next to another person. these might help you.
