I read somewhere that God killed around 2,270,365 people while Satan only killed around 10people according to the Bible. Do Christians believe that God is still killing today? For example I know that there are some that believe he destroyed New Orleans. If he is not, wonder why the big change?
I'm not really talking about all of the millions that have been killed by the diseases, etc that God invented. But those that he purposely kills.

Ok, if the number estimated is too high. Are there any estimates as to how many were killed, based upon city populations, etc? Were all the babies killed too?

Not sure. Good question though. I'll ask him when I get there.

I think for the most part, those days are gone. And the reason for those days being gone, in my humble opinion, are because he did it in defense of Israel as a nation. Keeping Israel as a nation (pre 1947) was important so that they would be able to fulfill prophecy through Christ. And that opens up a whole new can of worms, doesn't it?
Regardless of the new can though, the time of the law had passed at the birth of Christ, and then at his crucifixion, it became the time of the gentiles, as he was refused recognition by the Jews as the Messiah. He came first for the Jew, then the Gentiles.
So, does God kill people now? I don't know, don't care. I figure that if He's the God that's all knowing and all powerful, he can do as he wants, and that's ok by me.

When a solider goes to war and has to kill an enemy solider in order to stay alive would you say that he killed this solider on purpose? Or that he was defending himself from an onslaught?

The instances that people normally look at in the bible have more to do with people turning aware from G-d then G-d just mindlessly killing people.

There were a lot of cultures that were allowed to survive and continue that did not coincide with the Jewish practices. In fact, these cultures even posed a threat to the Jews and even conquered them at times.

The societies that were destroyed are beyond our imaginations. They were beyond perverse and corrupt - a slap in the face of G-d just from their mere existence.

One thing that most people forget is that he is a just G-d. Many just think of him as loving. That everything will be made all better, all we have to do is mouth 'sorry'. Many cannot understand how this all-loving G-d would do such things, and those who are non-believers are brainwashed with this same refrain - G-d is only loving, not just.

The truth of the matter is that these societies had multiple chances to save themselves. In fact, in the matter of Sodom Abraham begged G-d to spare the city. G-d said he would spare the city if righteousness could be found. None was. That is a telling testament to what this city was really like, not to mention how the behavior of the inhabitants when Lot was saved.

These societies, if they had been allowed to continue, would have corrupted the world and cause perversion to spread rapidedly.

The other thing that many people seem to forget is that land was secured by war. Many socieites, not just the Jews, during this time period fought constantly to obtain more land. It was how things were done. Many point out how violent the Jews were, while at the same time they completly ignore the reality of the other societies - who were often more barbaric and violent then the Jews could ever think of being.

G-d did not seek out people just to kill them because it was fun. He came with judgment to certain cultures that had gone so far away from any truth that to allow them to exist was a perversion in itself.

G-d is also forgiving. Read the story of Jonah to see a society that was far gone and then willing turn back to G-d. They were spared and all was wiped clean.

2 million people may sound like a lot - but look at the time frame the Tanakh covers. It is long, hundreds and hundreds of years. More people died in the past couple of decades at the hands of communists and other terrorists then of all the Jewish conquests of the Tanakh combined.

Apart from the question of whether God actually ever did kill anyone, there is a logical explanation for Katrina and subsequent massive hurricanes. Storms moving over warm water gather strength as they go; when they hit the Gulf of Mexico, they encounter a patch of relatively shallow, much warmer water than is found even a couple hundred miles to the east over the Atlantic. Take a look at a weather map of the Northern Hemisphere -- http://www.wunderground.com has a good one, with plenty of added detail maps -- and you will see how the water temperature suddenly increases from Haiti westward.

As to those he purposely kills, I think it might be more useful to ask if there are those who he clearly deliberately saves -- cases where the known laws of physics, such as the temperature and wind interactions that cause hurricanes -- simply do not function as might be expected. Figuring who deserved X storm or Y earthquake or Z disease outbreak is little more than sniping at strangers as well as the brethren, something I thought Christians are called to leave behind them when they decide to follow Jesus.

'Course, I could be wrong about that loving thy brother part.

Well, since man was created in the image of God, and seeing as how it states in the New Testament that "God is a spirit" and Jesus stated on the cross "Father, into your hands I commend my spirit," and since most good and faithful soldiers pray in earnest "in Jesus' name, amen" it stands to reason that in the name of God, good men eliminate bad men by way of their allegiance to their country through their sworn statements of being a soldier.

As far as areas devastated by Natural disasters or "Mother Nature" I have to go back to the God is a spirit and whenever the forces of nature spike, there's not a whole lot anybody can do about anything except hope they're not affected.

As far as the diseases, Jesus stated that "the poor and sick will always be among you" and that I really don't have an answer for. There are just always going to be those areas in the world which need medical do-gooders and I have to believe those are simply breakdowns in the human chain and God inspires those able to help those who are needy.

Well, if God and Satan killed anyone then it's more like Satan killing the 2,270,365 people and God killing the 10. But I doubt he "kills" anyone. He a date limit to when we are suppose to die and that is when we die. On the day that God chooses. He might not always choose how we die like if we kill ourselves or something he's not going to choose that we kill ourselves. Although the Devil might. He might choose for us to die as health wise tho. If it says it in the Bible then it's true if it don't then you can't belive it for sure unless you ask God.

But let me ask this question: Why is it claled an act of God? Doesn't satan have the power to do things like dropping a tornado into a trailer park?

i am also interested in your comment that satan has killed around 10 people. Could you name these people or direct us to a list of them?

God is caring, loving, and does not rejoice in death. People die everyday because of drug use, alcohol, old age, and many other self-related causes. Not mentioning the suicide rate in the world. God does have the power to take life and give life. If he kills someone he has that right. He gave each person life, so therefore he has that right to take it away. Satan can also kill as well. The bible says,"The devil walks the earth like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour." The lord will protect you if you want his protection.

God doesn't kill, he allows satan to kill. God is the God of life. Satan has to come through God before satan kills someone. God loved the people in New Orleans. He didn't want them to die. Satan wanted them to die because he wanted people to go to hell with him when the day comes when all Christians go to heaven and all non-believers in christ go to hell. Satan isn't in hell yet. He's on earth with me and you. The Lord kicked him out of heaven for trying to take the place of the Lord. Satan kills people because he doesn't want to suffer the pain of hell alone. Does this answer your question, because I don't want you confused about the goodness of the Lord? Don't ever confuse the works of God with works of Satan, because the Lord loves you and me.He would never kill you. Only Satan would kill you.

We are saved by grace, you have a choice to belie eve in him before he returns.

If you believe in Jesus, God will be there, if something were to happen to you. He will watch your back. I have experienced this many of times. If you do not believe then you are on your own to defend your self against this world.

If God destroyed new Orleans, he would not leave a thing standing, so it was not God.

I'd love to see where you got these numbers. Can you provide a link?

BTW, if you read the story of the flood again, you will notice an answer to your question is given. God made a promise to us and set His sign of that promise in the sky as a reminder.
