There is a large military operation already under way in Sulu Province. But, there is an opportunity to engage members of the MILF to help defeat Abu Sayaf. An appeal to the MILF, who are Muslims, that Abu Sayaf is carrying out actions which are a "harram" (against the Koran) would identify Abus Sayaf properly as the enemy of all the people of the Philippines. In return, the central government in Manilla could consider granting a greater degree of autonomy to Mindanao, similar to the relation which exists in Canada between their central government in Ottawa and the Province of Quebec.
This would insure that Abu Sayaf is defeated and the MILF is "co-opted" and both would no longer be a threat.

The army can overrun their camps and kill every man but they did not eliminate rebellion. Corruption among the national and local leaders and in the government agencies are the causes that create mistrust and dissatisfaction among the populace. These poor people are the breeding ground of a rebellious group who would like to have self determination but its a misguided one.

Well there is more to it than it seems its more political than military solution. Those people have live on that place for yrs, and i think they should grant them independence they are the only part of the country with islamic culture why just give it to them so that this uprising ends. Thats what its all about They just want independence from the mainland no guns would solve it only politically and diplomacy.
