I didn't bother with nations other than the US, but Portugal, France and Asian cultures also have respect for the rooster.
In the US, it has two meanings. In a Christian home, it is a signifier of the Passion of Christ.
In a non-Christian home, it usually is used as a good omen:
Rooster: Intelligence (mun), Patience (in), Trust (shin), Science of War (mu), Bravery (yong)
People believed roosters knew time well and considered them a symbol of hopeful beginnings and good omens. It was said that when the chicken made sound, all evil spirits disappeared. The characteristic of intelligence was attributed to the rooster's crest. When it eats, it shares its food with others, showing patience. A rooster stays awake all night and cries at a certain time every morning, giving an impression of trust. Its sharp toenail represents the science of war, and its continuing to fight until death was compared with bravery.
Personally, I think most people don't know what the Rooster symbolizes and they just buy the wallpaper or cookie jar because it looks neat.

At the age of 31, when I first visited the USA. And discovered that Americans called a male chicken a rooster rather than a **** for some reason I don't really understand. **** sparrow, **** linnet, nothing vulgar, just descriptive. The counterpart to hen. [Edit] FFS, FROTFFL, FLMFAO. Y!A accepts those obscene abbreviations, but when I post the scientifically precise, accepted, customary, usual, everyday British, etc, word cóck in relation to male birds, it replaces it by ****. What an effing joke.
