Get your female spayed and your male neutered - and stop hitting that dog - he is doing what instinct makes him do.

You're the "intelligent" human - keep them apart until they are fixed - what are you thinking of hitting a dog like that? He won't obey you under these circumstances, you need to get them both altered.

Stop hitting him. Then crate them separately so they cannot get to each other. When a female is in heat, it is natural that a male dog, regardless of relationship (animals don't recognize relationships like we do) want to mate.

You will have to remove him, or her from the house. You can't stop a male dog when a female is in heat. Good luck!!

Most immediately, you are going to just have to separate the two. If you leave them alone for even a few seconds, they will mate.

Longer term, you should get them both fixed. The health benefits are many (reduced risk of mammary tumors, reduced risk of prostate cancer just to name a couple).

Best thing is just to keep them apart till she is out of heat, then have them both neutered.
