I'm going to Australia in December for 5 weeks. I heard that it's possible to stay in apartments for weeks at a time instead of going to Hostels or Hotels. I'd like to know where I could go book them and how old I have to be in order to rent.

Thanks.

It is possible, some places will ask for a week's rent as bond - just be sure to make it clear that you only want to stay short term.....check out gumtree.com.au and either scan the ads or put one on yourself - its a very popular site for what you need

Skye Baby is 100 per cent correct ~ get some assistance about this, because renting accommodation in Australia is not always an easy matter.

For example, it can take up to three hours to drive across Sydney, a major Aussie city ~ imagine if you ended up in an apartment three hours away from the sights and activities you want to be involved in!

However, there are some web sites which can be helpful, but please have a look at some maps while you look at what's on offer!

There are lots more, and your travel advisor will probably know some, also.

Have a great holiday! :-)

Apartments are usually called flats or units in Australia but there are "holiday apartments" in all cities. It is normal to have to take out a lease on a flat for a minimum of six months but with holiday apartments you can stay for as little as a week with no lease involved. Look up "holiday apartments" in any accommodation guide or in the classified advertisements of the newspaper of the city you plan to visit.

I would check this one out through a travel agent simply because they know where things are. Australia is a really big place with whole lots of nothing in between the somethings so if you try to do this on your own you could find yourself staying in some flea pit in the middle of absolutely nowhere with no way of getting to the somethings you actually want to see!

Firstly, there are short term let's and long term lets which involve different procedures.

The easiest and most flexible is to try one of the serviced apartments in any of the cities that you intend to visit. They only really work out beneficial if there are 2 or more of you travelling as they are priced per apartment. Hostels are priced per person. Here's some sample's. Just click on the "Show All "Button , then sort according to location , price , and star rating :

By booking now , you will be able to get in ahead of the local summer rush.

as long as I know there are apartements that you can rent for a short period of time....you need to contact the information center of the city you are planning to go....or just ask this question again specifying what city and people will tell you
