Combing it might make it a little thinner, but not noticably. I have impossibly thick hair and have heard that you can ask them to make it thinner when you get it cut. Also conditioning and straightening might make it look thinner.

I wish! I have super thick hair (and long as well) and no amount of brushing will ever make it thinner. It is natural for everyone to lose some hairs everyday. It's kinda like your skin flaking off, it just happens and the new stuff takes its place. Like I said, everyone "sheds" hair, but unfortunatly for us with a lot of long hair, it is much more noticable.

No, I'm pretty sure it doesn't.

I think the reason the hair comes out is that new hairs are growing in and taking their place, so your hair won't be any thinner.

You can go to a salon and get your hair thinned out, though. That'd be much more effective.

I thought everyone lost some hair occasionally, especially when brushing or combing. Don't think it is an aid to thin hair.

Brushing can break hair, but combing is usually quite safe. You're hair loss may be normal, especially if you have long hair. But if you chemically treat it, it may be breaking from damage. In that case cutting and conditioning can help.

not really, most of the hair that comes out in the brush is already loose and on it's way out. you can go to a hair dresser and ask to get your hair thinned though, they have special scissors for it

No it will not. Thinning hair is due to medication, hormonal problems, and genetics.
I've been a licensed cosmetologist for thirty years.
Hope this helps.
