Do you know what? There are no REAL religious people out there: there are only people who POSE as religious. You know, and they know, that they haven't spoken to any supernatural being, but hypocritically say they have!
The world is populated (in reality) ONLY by atheists! But they don't know it.
Faith is believing that one believes in the supernatural (when he darn well knows that it does not exist). Like a virus, Faith is delusional. The cure is Reason. For some it's too late.

I am totally atheist to the point that i wont believe something unless it can be proven. I remember someone talking saying something about the best plan being to ask god for praise god or something. I thought to myself "wow, people really believe this crap, someone is actually planning to ask god for help" then i laughed so hard i nearly puked.

Some of them are garden-variety liars, but it's not impossible that others have worked themselves up to an hysterical state in which they've actually believed that they were "communicating with God." In fact, many people have experienced a state of intense excitement in which they've seemed to "leave their bodies," etc. Happens at rock shows all the time...lol.

Well...if there IS a God...then I would think it would be like in the movie Dogma...that God cannot communicate with man...He had to go through five Adams to figure that one out...now, if someone says that they heard/talked to/saw God, Jesus, or any saint...I would normally say that they either must have been in that wonderful state of mind between sleep and waking, or on some sort of drug, or might have a mental illness. Or could have just worked themselves into a frenzy (like how the people who speak in tongues seem to do) Hope I helped some...

I say "You talked to god? And he talked back? That's amazing! Because Mother Teresa, one of the foremost religious figures of the twentieth century who dedicated her entire life to doing God's work, was wracked with doubt and anxiety that in all that time he never communicated with her once. What was it that made god single you out over her, do you think?"

Usually I can tell that they are being sincere. I think they are looking for some purpose and meaning, and it makes them feel good to think they can communicate with God. I used to think I was getting "signals" from God or my guardian angel, back when I was a Christian....but in the end it was all me. I think it's unfortunate that they don't trust their own instincts, but ascribe them to a deity instead. Of course, I also think they are out of touch with reality.

The worst barrier to knowledge is the conviction that one already has it. I think you have made yourself unable to hear any reasonable argument. Well, my advice in that case, go ahead and laugh, but just in case carry a motion sickness bag around with you.

Embarrassed? No. It is their choice to believe that even if I find it to be unusual and unreal. I do not believe anyone has the right to interfere with anothers freedom of choice so unless they are interfering with mine, I leave them alone.
