Heaven is not necessarily physically above us, but no this is not hell. Hell is a place without the presence of God at all, and currently we see love and compassion and community, some of the things God promotes, imagine a place without any of the good stuff in life, that's hell.

I am a student of A Course in Miracles and it attests that yes we are in Hell, the biblical versions of hell were a creation of the powers that be to conform people to their religion, by inducing them with fear.
A quote I often say (or sing along with a song I play) "Take me to Hell cos Hell can't be worse than this"
This is Hell, it was created to be the opposite of heaven, and should any intelligent person using their highest possible thinking mind ponder this they given time would see this is the situation.

Absolutely--can you think of any place worse than Earth? If you think burning in Hell for all eternity is bad, just think about the kinds of torture we have down here: famine, disease, poverty...and those are just the obvious ones. We have people on Earth who are beaten by a spouse/parent every night, some who have such deep emotional pain they've never felt happiness, people who have to endure hatred and prejudice every day...the list goes on and on. We have EVERY kind of torture here on earth, and to some, just sitting in a pit of fire would be welcome. At least there they wouldn't have to go through the emotional pain we do on Earth.
You could say that Earth is a literal living Hell.
Research ancient Gnosticism, a branch of early Christianity. They believed that Hell was symbolic of Earth, and that's what I believe as well. If you look outside of the Bible and outside of the box, you'll find that this is actually a very common belief.

I really dont think that there is some firey place in the core of the earth or some beautiful place up above in the sky. I feel like heaven and hell are just what you make them.

Heaven and hell are a state of mind. How would you know you were in one without knowing the other.

We're in between. Earth is the closest a non-believer will get to heaven, and the closest a believer will get to hell.

A lie is never true, so the hell perceived is untrue, but may seem to be for a time.
