James 1:13-14 (King James Version)

Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man

But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

So here we go, clear and cut, precise and definitive. God is NOT tempted into Evil.

Was Jesus tempted? whether he sinned or not that is not the issue here. But was he tempted?

Matthew 4:1-11 (New King James Version)

Satan Tempts Jesus

1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. 3 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”
4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’”[a]
5 Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written:

‘ He shall give His angels charge over you,’

and,

‘ In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’”[b]

7 Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the LORD your God.’”[c]
8 Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.”
10 Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you,[d] Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.’”[e]
11 Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.

Because He was in the human form when He walked the earth, which is part of the reason He came- to show us how we humans can and should live. We're all tempted by Satan, just as Jesus was in the Garden of Gethsemane, but God does not allow us to be tempted with more than we can handle- He always makes a way to escape it, as it says so in His Word. It is NOT a sin to be tempted, but giving into the temptation IS sin.

Matthew 26:39 "And going a little farther he [Jesus Christ] fell on his face and prayed, 'My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt.'" If the Father and the Son were not distinct individuals, such prayer would have been meaningless. Jesus would have been praying to himself, and his will would have been the Father's will.

John 8: 17,18 "[Jesus answered the Jewish Pharisees:] In your law it is written that the testimony of two men is true; I bear witness to myself, and the Father who sent me bears witness to me." So, Jesus definitely spoke of himself as being an individual separate and distinct from the Father.

Matthew 24:36 "Concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heaven nor the Son, but only the Father." If Jesus IS God, why does the "Father" know more than the "Son"?

John14:28 " YOu heard that I said to you, I am going away and I am coming [back] to you. If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going my way to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am." Again, IF Jesus IS God, why does Jesus say that the Father is greater than him?

Jesus was totally God and totally human.

We cannot totally understand the mystery of the Incarnation.

We are not even sure of Jesus' knowledge of his deity at the time of the temptation. So we can only take the Gospel story of the Temptation at face value.

It would seem that the God part of Jesus could not be tempted but the human part could be.

The important part is that Jesus resisted the temptation and stayed true to his mission.

With love in Christ.

Temptation is a test. God allows this to see if we truly love him. The holy spirit let Jesus be tempted to test if Jesus is truly ready. Obviously Jesus was ready because he beat satan's temptation everytime. Evil can only come because "we" allow it. Put it this way, Temptation is a yes or no question. You can say yes and allow evil. Or no.
J.R.R Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings explains this. (Sauron the Eye controls evil, meaning I *eye* can try to allow evil or I can also try to not allow it. Tolkien did that on purpose.)

to me there is a difference between being tempted and giving into temptation, i believe that as we grow those things that once tempted us, no longer do so.
i know that Christ did not give into temptation.
because of the unclarity in the bible i am still working on whether or not he was tempted as we know it to mean. I would assume that he was tempted as we know it to mean but over came it and did not give in, thus being perfect here on earth so that he could be the sacrifical lamb and atone for our sins, so we could come clean and be saved through him.

You have to realize that when Jesus was on earth he did not operate as God, he operated like a man. The book of Phillipians says that Jesus poured out his divinity and took the form of a servant that he might purchase salvation for us. So yes, while on earth Jesus was tempted.

Point is understood by a few people but it will fly over many a persons head, due to confusion, if you want others to understand try using the " KISS " method: Keep It Simple Stupid - my companion often tells me use simple terms.

My translation is "You shall not put God on trial; you shall not submit God to any 'test
'.Faith tells us that God can do anything that is not opposed to Love. If one accepts this, there is never a need tot 'test' God, or to 'put God on trial''...

Jesus was 100% human and 100% God at the same time.

I know, I know. It makes lousy math, but it is good theology. As a 100% man, he experienced everything we do, even temptation.
