I recently just got back from a 2 week holiday with my family.
My mum was checking our voicemails and there was one for me

'Hello Holly
It's Me
You're Dead

You c**t
You c**t
You silly little c**t'

My mum insisted on phoning the police but they didn't seem overly enthusiastic to help.
The only people with my home number are friends and I don't know of anyone angry with me at the moment.
I'm not really worried for my sake but my mothers very shaken up by it all.
Is there anything I can do to calm her down and reassure her?

Thanks

x

Wow, that is scary, no wonder your poor Mum is worried. I feel that the police should do something about it, what , i don't know but that is really scary. Filthy language as well, maybe some girl that is jealous of you. Hope it is the last time you get a phone-call like that.
I used to get up to 6 phone-calls a day from a person who kept on saying [Granny is coming to get you ] in a scary voice, i changed my phone-number but it freaked me out so badly i did not even want to answer the phone. I wish you well and pse take care:)

Contact your phone provider and tell them you have had threatening/abusive calls. They should have a service where callers have to go through them before they get connected to your phone. They take the callers name and the nature of the call plus the day, date and time are logged as well. If you got another abusive call it would be traced. Tell your provider that you reported it to the police and that they weren't helpful. It is against the law to make obscene or abusive calls which is why we are surprised the police didn't offer you any help. Maybe they thought it was a one-off call but they should have been more sympathetic and helpful. We hope you get it sorted out because we have had similar problems in the past and know how upsetting it is.

That's really terrible, I can understand your mum's feelings, and you are being very brave about it. Whatever you do, don't erase the message, you will need it for evidence. Phone companies can trace calls, there are ways of finding out where this came from. Also, perhaps one of your friends/relatives recently lost their address book & it had your number in, so it might be a crank call from a stranger. I lost my mobile once with all my contacts in, and my friends got crank calls from strangers, really embarrassing for me. The police are not being helpful, you need to push them. Your phone company will be more helpful, try getting them to contact the police. I know BT can intercept all calls made to your home via the operator & only let verified people through to you (although at a cost), there are other things they can help you with. Don't let this pass. It is hard as it would be really inconvenient to change your phone number, so don't let this go.

Tell the police that you want the telephone number of the dept. who takes care of crank calls. It is against the law. I had some crank calls and the police put me in touch with that dept. They did not need to trace the call because when my phone bill came the idiots had called and their tel. number was on the bill. The police called them,it was long distance and threatened them with arrest if they ever did it again, and I nener have. Call identity will also give that number. If they only called once it was probably a prank. Get call identity from the phone co.

I would tell your mum that obviously someone who has a mental health issue, and that she shouldnt worry too much. Unless there is a direct threat to you then the police or any other agency wont act. Now that they have phoned you, block their details so that if another one comes through it wont be heard. A few networks have this service. It may be possible for them to intercept your calls for a while, and they check with you when a call comes through to see if you want to talk to that caller. Contact your service provider for advise.. I would explain to your mum that no DIRECT threat has been given, its just silly words by a really stupid person with nothing better to do, and reassure her that you havent upset anyone, its just someone with nothing better to do.

Think well and you'll find your enemy. may be it's a girl who asked somebody. Save the voicemail, you can use it as a proof later. Tell your mom her it was a bad joke, not a real threat. get that thing that is detecting numbers, that can help. Somebody of your friends secretly hates you or your number can be detected by your adress. Change your phone number. I'm sure you should tell about this in your phone company, they can give you the list of your calls if you pay.

reverse phone number search compiles hundreds of millions of phone book records to help locate the owner's name, location, time zone, email and other public information.

Use a reverse phone lookup to:
Get the identity of an unknown caller.
Identify an area code.
Recall the name of a person whose number you wrote down.
Identify an unfamiliar phone number that shows up on your bill.

Well, getting new friends might be a start. It doesn't sound like the ones you have that have your number are the real deal. Keep a log of these sorts of calls with the date and time they occured and your mom was right to call Police. Listen to her and do what she thinks is the right thing to do each time. She has more experience.

I can understand why she is worried that would scare me. The Police should be doing something more. Maybe the Police can trace the number find out where it came from. Maybe talk to your friends find out if they gave your number to anyone. Also see if you can recognise the voice. Could it be someone from work?

Maybe you could talk to the operator to trace the call next time? Or change your phone number. If you feel threatened, the police should do something.
