To answer your question do aircraft have beds for pilots. Yes on long haul flight they do have beds know as crew rest and is a option on B-747 or B-777 as an example.

On the B-747-400 as an example crew rest is located above door 5 in he aft section. It affords privacy and quiet, with freedom from distractions and involves no loss of revenue seating in the passenger cabin. They also have upper deck crew rest on some models as an option.

On the B-777 located in the mid section lower deck is a module that can be added and flight crews take a ladder down to it from the main passenger cabin where the is severa beds and other gadgets for them to pass the time.

Remember on long flight the aircraft have two flight crews because of the flight limits pilots can be at the controls. So they swap out cockpit crews and some take a nap while the others are flying.

So remember not all aircraft have crew rest (beds) such as domestic aircraft.

All those pictures that Av8trxx linked to are the for the cabin crew or flight attendants, not the pilots. The rest area at the rear of the main deck near the r5 door on a 747 is for the cabin crew or flight attendants.

On a 747 there is a small room just behind the cockpit. Some airlines have them inside the cockpit, some have them just behind the cockpit. Some have actual beds, some have seats that recline flat into a bed. Cargo 747's have the whole upper deck for their rest area so they have room for seats and beds. The Singapore 747 freighter I worked on had 6 business class seats and 2 bedrooms.

They do this so the flight crew can rest and be close to the cockpit just in case they are needed.

Can you imagine if there was an emergency and the pilot was resting in the cabin crew rest at the rear of the plane, with the flight attendants, then had to run the whole length of a 747 to get to the cockpit?

Sure, I jumped on an old cargo 747-100 once years ago. They were very proud of the fact that they just had crew bunks installed. They weren't heavy crewed, so there weren't any "bunkies" assigned for that flight. The 747-400 has a couple of bunks installed as standard. That plane was designed with range that would require an extra crewmember or two.

I'm sure that the A-380 and A-350 will have proper crew rest provisions rather than the jury rigged situation that exists with some aircraft.

Yes, some aircraft, like Boeing 777 and Airbus A340, have beds for pilots that are located above the first class or in the lower back of the airplane. There are no beds in the cockpit.

Beds for pilots (crew rest areas) are airline option.

I'm not sure of the airlines... though some of the flights such as from California to Australia would require a crew-swap.

I was aircrew in the US Navy P-3C III Orion in the late 1990's, and there WERE two racks (beds) for flight-deck crew (pilot / flight engineer). We were usually doing 12-15 hour flights, and the rest of us would crash in sleeping bags on the deck for the period we weren't working.

i think they have their own seats behind the cockpit, it depends on what airline though, some just sit in first class, some in some jump seat, some have crew cabins in the cargo compartment, some in the rear of the plane, some in the front, it also depends if its a domestic heavy or long range, but some do have beds, airliners.net have photos of it

these are crew rest areas, dunno if pilots stay there though
