I have always gotten my dogs groomed by a professional, but I now have a 5-month old Goldendoodle and I saw they now have a Flowbee type device for dogs. I wondered if anyone has used it on their dog. I would love to groom my dog at home.

People should really think out all the aspects of a breed before getting the dog. You admit you have always had your dogs groomed by a groomer, so why do you want to change now when you just got a dog that is going to be big and require grooming? I guess I don't understand why you no longer want to take the dog to the groomer?

You don't have the experience to groom the dog yourself but you could learn to do it. You should invest in a good pair of pet clippers (not some $10 - $20 pair). You will want to learn what size blades you will need to use on your dogs coat and decide what you want the haircut to look like. You need to be aware of the possibilities of clipper burn so you can avoid hurting your dog.

An advantage of using a professional groomer is that the dogs' nails will be trimmed and probably trimmed back farther than you will be comfortable doing. The anal glands will be expressed each grooming appt. The groomer will clean the ears and be aware of any ear infections going on and alert you. Your groomer also is alway alert to any growths, behavior changes, just things that may indicate a need for a visit to the vet. You will need to learn to tend to the ears and the anal glands if you are going to do all the grooming yourself.

One of my dogs lets me do it. I have a special brush attachment that is actually for vacuuming your dog. It's like a rubber brush. Although she doesn't mind it, my other dog would have a heart attack!
