In my quest for appeal from a medical waiver that has been denied 3 times, I have done everything from writing to my senator secretary of the navy, and congresswoman to getting notes from my specialist nullifying all the general reasons for medical disqualification, "is it contagious," is it effected by military lifestyle" ect. The board for navy medical waivers in millington tn. just seem to say that the partial scarring of my kidneys due to IgA nephropathy-my condition is enough to disqualify me. I firmly believe this is an unfounded excuse as i am perfectly able bodied to do any job for any amount of time which i would be called on to do. My kidney condition is a non-factor as stated by my doctor as well. Anyone know of other ways, or other people i can get through to win this ridiculous battle which i need to be able to make those guys see that allowing me to join is not risky.

Or at the very least convince them to give me a shot, from just the utter determination that i give towards this. going on 20 months

I can show them that I am physically able bodied I can easily meet the minimum requirements for that of the SEALs and if something were to happen to my kidneys its very slow taking at least 10 years for anyone to even notice physically

IT DOESN'T MATTER what you or the civilian doctors think. if the military is unwilling to take a chance on the condition recurring or getting worse, then you are SOL.

Those civilians have NO CLUE what the rigors and stress of military life can and will do to the body.

Choose another path. you will NOT be serving in ANY Branch of the US Military. ever.

First let me say, I applaud your perserverence.

However, I hate to be the bearer of bad news. Three times denied is pretty official. Actually I am amazed you got to the 3rd denial.

Considering we are so short manned in the military, I would think they would you clear you. Guess not. So, I suggest you ask for a full medical review by a Navy doctor at MEPS. Take any xrays you may have and ALL prior medical records. You can try to request a PT as well, though I doubt they will give you one.

Last ditch effort, speak with an attorney regarding possible discrimination. Squeeky wheels do get greased.

Thanks for at least trying and good luck to you...:)

This is directly taken from the source listed below. Not a word has been changed:
"Current pyelonephritis (chronic or recurrent) or any other unspecified infection of the kidney is disqualifying".
It is paragraph 2-15(f)(2) of AR 40-501. The Standards for Medical Fitness.
I applaud you for your tenacity. But, you don't meet the physical standards for enlistment or appointment.

With three turn-downs I can't imagine they will let you pass GO. I shouldn't even say that perhaps because I don't actually know, but as much as they need people, they would let you in if they could. Your condition probably falls into a category they can't provide a waiver for even if they wanted to or agreed that it wouldn't actually effect your ability to perform. I doubt the focus of the board is on your ability, but instead it's a specific condition that cannot be waived.

I applaud your wanting to serve but the truth is they wont give you a wavier if you have any medical problems because if they grant you a wavier then something happens they are libel for your medical condition and they just wont do it even if you agree not to hold them libel they know a good Lawyer could break that I would advise you to look for a job in Law enforcement

If the navy won't take you, try the reserves or a different branch of the military... failing that, apply for a job with a civilian contractor.

Kidney problems can be serious on a ship far from medical treatment. It's important that you stay safe.
Stay home, your Mom doesn't want you to go.
Good luck.
