I'm appalled that you would even think that yelling at a greyhound is okay. These dogs are incredibly sensitive, and they do NOT respond well to correction (yelling). Most likely, the more you yell at him, the more you confuse him.
If you don't want him on the furniture (I don't know of ANY greyhound owner who doesn't let their dog on the furniture, though), simply prevent him from getting onto the furniture. If he's walking towards the couch, say "NO" and guide him to his dog bed. If he gets onto the couch, say "OFF" and guide him off and to his dog bed with a treat. Never yell. Always reward good behavior. And please be kind to your greyhound!!!

greyhounds (and other sighthounds) tend to be comfort magnets due to their bony build - in fact they ARE subject to pressure sores if not given enough soft bedding so a soft place to sleep is a NEED not a want. The best way to keep them off furniture is to provide a cushy pet bed as an alternative - my whippets definatally consider the sofa a poor second to the nice cozy cuddler beds ( they are allowed on both).
PS it is a point- yelling is usless without a demo of what you WANT!!!

There are many different techniques you can use to train your dog to stay off the furniture. One is when your dog jumps up on the furniture say "Off" in a firm tone, when she gets off of the furiture, give her a treat & tell him "Good Boy" in a happy tone. I use small liver treats & keep them with me at all times when working with a new dog.
"Off" = Treat = "Good Boy
It is important to be consistent when training your dog. If there are more than one of you working with him, make sure you are all on the same page.
Another method is called Clicker training. You can pick up the clicker & some flash cards with commands at many of the pet stores. It is the same principle. Command, Click, Reward. Make sure that you use a different treat for training thatn you would normally give. This makes it more interesting for your dog.
You must remember that furniture means everything in the house including your bed. Greyhoundsa are smart dogs & generally live to please their masters.

Stop yelling at him, obviously, that isn't the answer. When he tries to get on the furniture, take hold of his collar and tell him, "No" or "Stay down" and gently redirect him away from the piece of furniture. Tell him to lay down and encourage him to lay on the floor or his doggy bed. (It's a good idea to have some large doggy beds around so he has something soft and comfortable to lay on besides your furniture.) Be consistent and do not allow him to remain on the furniture if he gets up on it, gently direct him off of it while again telling him to stay down and lead him to his own bed to lay on. When he starts obeying or actually going over to lay on his own bed on his own, reward and praise him! Praise him a lot!!!

why does he have to stay off of the furniture? didn't you bring him into your home to be a member of your family? if he IS a member of your family, do you make everyone sit on the floor? all of my furfriends have complete run of the house - they go where they want - only exception is: no dogs in the bathrooms, but only because i have to have somewhere to put the litter boxes. if they wouldn't get into them then they could go in there too. why don't you try maybe putting a blanket or throw on the couch if you are worried about the hair? i have 3 dogs and 9 cats in the house and i wouldn't dream of telling them they couldn't be on the couch, chair, bed or wherever

I heard putting aluminum foil over the furniture while you are gone will keep them off because of the sound it makes when they jump on it. If that doesnt help try getting something very uncomfortable like the plastic mats with the tabs that stick up so it can grip carpet. Put that upside down with the pokers facing up, one jump on that and he probably wont chance it again, even though its harmless to him. We did that around our trash can to keep the dogs away from it and it worked like a charm!

Wow, I am surprised yelling at him doesn't work.. Normally when you yell at them they jump right down.. OH Wait.. maybe he hasn't got any idea at all what the heck you are talking about.. Did you teach him OFF, or DOWN, or anything at all??
