ok i wanna go to Canada i just applied for it i did they express service the guy told me it should take about 3 weeks but my friends say that it will take longer does anyone have any advice oh and do i need a visa? just curious and yes im a US citizen

According to this site, till the end of September you can travel to Canada with a photo ID and proof of application for a passport.

You will see that for many countries you do not need visa, specially for short journeys and countries many USA citizens go for holidays.

It can take longer than 3 weeks. You can check the status of your application at https://passportstatus.state.gov/opss/default.asp
One thought is that if you have a week to go on your trip, your passport hasn't arrived, make a in-person appointment at one of the US Passport Agencies and bring proof of your previous application. You'll also need proof of your coming travel (for example, ticket or electronic itinerary).

check the status and whatnot, but if it gets within 1 week of your travel date and you still don't have it, call customer service and tell them the situation.
