Ideally you do need a dinner suit although if you are really on a budget any old pair of black trousers would do with a DJ.

It is perfectly acceptable to wear any kind of bow tie with a dinner suit. Spotty, stripey - go as wild or as boring as you want to! There are also regimental bow ties, old school bowties, university bow ties.

As far as the DJ itself is concerned, you can have a black one or a white tuxedo or if you fancy yourself as a bit of a dandy with slightly artistic undertones, a velvet one.

If you don't fancy buying one most of the hire shops which hire wedding morning suit will also hire dinner suits.

However M & S is a good place to start for dinner suits which don't cost the earth - most department stores will also stock them. Old fashioned ones are classy so if you have an aging relative who you can pinch one off or a local charity shop it is sometimes worth looking there.

What is considered very naff these days (in the UK) is a frilly dress shirt (a plain white will do if you don't want to lash out on a proper dinner shirt), a ready tied bow tie or a shirt with wing collars. See http://www.folds.net/bowtie/page2.gif for how to tie a bow tie.

There is even a version of black tie known as "Hollywood Black Tie" which has even more of a relaxed attitude and you don't even have to wear a tie - think rock stars on the red carpet!

I wouldn't buy one a DJ as you really do have to try them on but a websearch on bow tie will produce lots of places to look.

depending upon the even you would want to wear black dress pants, white dress shirt black tie. you wont look like a father because for men the attire is limited. if its a summer somewhat casual thing you may be able to get away with summer linnen white pants and white linnen shirt.

From Emily Post Book of Etiquette:
Single Breasted Tux (Dinner coat)
This is the most essental iten in the ecening wardrobe of a gentalman.

1.at every evening party exept those witch are ceremoniously formal
2.on opening nights at the thearter
3 dinning in a de luxe resturant
(but never before 6pm unless leaving ones home to goto a dinner party)

Some are and some aren't. One can't make a blanket statement about all women of any race. Beauty is completely subjective and in the eye of the beholder. Most of the people here are being very stereotypical, even the ones who are being complimentary. All black women don't have wide noses or thick lips or the same texture of hair or glowing skin or big butts or even dark skin. The vast majority of black Americans are mixed race even if they don't appear to be to you - it's the reason why most black Americans don't look like Africans. I don't know what women the ones who've spoken on personal hygiene are hanging around but maybe you need to find a better class of people to associate with.

yup .

Black tie means a Dinner jacket - what Americans call tuxedo and a black tie.

White tie is much more formal - the coat has tails and men wear it for dos when the women wear off the shoulder evening frocks and tiaras
