Im with Family and its the 2nd time the're doing it cut on the grill last time wass awfull helpppp

Tri-Tip is best off the (charcoal) grill served medium or less.

Season over night... use what ever you like. Salt, pepper, garlic powder... or a chile based dry run.

I suggest you avoid using bbq sauce.

Is this the whole tri-tip or tri-tip cut into steaks?

I recommend using a whole tri-tip. Do not trim, you want the fat-cap to provide extra flavor and it becomes a sacrificial layer if things get too charred.

If roast is not pre-seasoned, rub with salt/pepper/garlic power/cumin

on the grill, medium level (not direct heat, like with a steak).

8 minutes covered.

take off fire. let set 5 minutes.

carve.
