never argue with the customer. If the customer is being very rude back, always turn it over to your manager. Just be polite and say I will get the manager to handle this for you.
If the customer is just being rude to be rude and for no reason. Nobody has to put up with that. But still be polite, if you feel like you are getting to the point you are about to say something you shouldnt. Get somebody else. Maybe your personalities class. Give it to another associate.
Just say you know what, this person knows a little bit more about this outfit, or has been here longer and turn them over. If that doesnt work then get the manager.
Your manager will probably train you to do the same.

You want to be a sales accosiate for a clothes store, congratulations. I hope you like selling clothes, or even better you love clothes and you get exited selling them, right?
When I look for people to work for me, I always look for there passion. If you are passionate about fashion nothing can go wrong. If the product and the price is right why should a client be unhappy. When you have happy clients, there will be no rude clients. And if you encounter somebody who's style you don't like, think about the wonderful things you're selling. Sell your passion and ignore the negativity of some people, they do this because they are unhappy or because they just had a bad day and you're the first one to ventilate their frustration. Smile and keep in mind it is about your passion, it is about fashion.

HI The most important thing is always to remain nice, what do they scream at you? Let them have their say and then highlight the price list, agree with them that you know the small print is small, explain other customers have the same problem etc etc, and empathise with them about the situation But why would the management have the prices so small, why would they want to loose business, you should say it to the manager, and they should also value your time, i.e the real cost 'lost' by you needing to deal with irate customers, the additional time lost by your manager needing to leave their post to deal with what should be your job. It does not make much sence to me!!! But, at the end of the day, your just doing a job, it may get tiresome, even upsetting, to deal with rude people on a daily basis but at least you know your walking away from it at the end of term, the rude people and the company your currently working for will be left with each other

Remember the old adage "The customer is always right" be polite and give as much help as you possibly can. Remember if they are being rude they either don't know any better or they are cross. If they don't know any better there is not a lot you can do other than ask them not to speak to you in that manner as you find it offensive. If they are being rude because they are cross it is probably not you personally that they are cross with. If you are polite to them they will go away and think about how they spoke to you and regret it. Businesses rely on repeat business so if you are polite they will come back, if you become as rude as them then they will stay away.

1)Be saccharine sweet. If the customer is the type that's out to ruin someones day, it will enrage them, if the person is just in a bad mood, they will soften at this treatment.
2)Ask them if they would like to speak with management if they think that they are getting insufficient service. "I'm very sorry sir, if you like, I can call a member of our management team who may be able to help you."
3)Smile: see #1 above
4)speak softly, especially if they raise their voice. This is an old trick, as they will sometimes be quiet to listen to you. You can't out shout a customer, but you can speak more softly, again, if you're dealing with a jerk, it will drive them crazy.
5)Ask questions to guide the conversation: "I'm sorry for the inconvenience sir/madam, how can we make this right?"
most of all, remain calm, remain professional and remain personable.

Some customers will be rude, most will be nice. For the rude ones, smile at them and be just as nice as you can be - with luck it will embarrass them a little for acting like jerks. If you work with the public, you'll get a few like that.

Rude customers are usually angry for a specific reason. Listen to their problem; DON'T--they usually just want to vent; be respectful; empathize with their situation; ask them what you can do to make it right. If the customer becomes abusive, very politely say, "I find your language objectionable, please wait while I get my supervisor."

just pretend they are not being rude.
they may be upset at something, but if they are in-your-face type pushy, then tell them their behavior is not necessary and you will try and assist them if they will be patient.
keep in mind that is only if they are out of hand, other wise just be polite and they will warm up to you once the problem is fixed.
its funny how many times people yell at me in the beginning, then love me once it is taken care of like they never yelled at me in the first place...
