My 20 yr old fell asleep behind the wheel or fainted. Now he has to see all these doctors - heart doctor and now a brain doctor to find out why??? But, the brain doctor won't see him due to he is a cash patient. It is getting very costly for mom.
Any suggestion?

Let me add that he was at work at the time. And he has tried getting Medical and MIA, but he is either to old or not old enough. As of right now there is no type of assistance of a 20 yr old.

Does the mother have her own health insurance through her employer? If so, she can add her son to the insurance (group plan) at the time of open enrollment (usually Sept-Oct) but it doesn't take effect until January of the following year.

If this 20-year old person has no income, he may try Medicaid (or its equivalent in the state where he resides) - in CA, it's called Medi-Cal.

The same place you can find a brand new Cadillac, straight off the lot, for no cost.

When was the last time YOU worked for free? No one else does, either.

It doesn't exist. He didn't have insurance at the time, clearly, or the insurance would be covering it. You can't place a bet on the horse race AFTER it's run. That's what you're trying to do.

Mom doesn't have to pay - the kid is 20. He can pay his own bills. Or get a second full time job to pay his own bills. He's young. Working two full time jobs won't kill him. AND, it might give him access to group health insurance.

Medicaid! Your taxes cover it. His bills will be totally covered, and as he is an adult with probably a minor income instead of a big fat one, he probably qualifies, especially because he has a medical condition that warrants it.

Don't be ashamed. My little girl has medicaid for a similar condition. I got a $72,000 bill for her from hospital stay inclusive of tests, specialists, etc., and I nearly fell out of my chair. I was complaining to a friend, crying because I couldn't afford the payments. She yelled at me as only a true friend can and told me to get over myself and get my baby on medicaid. I did. They covered everything -- and the doctors immediately had to drop their bills by 15 to 25% by state law.

Medical insurance at no cost? He could see if he's eligible for medicaid. Other than that, not going to happen. And at 20 he's too old for SCHIPS.

a. Find a job that comes with employer-paid health insurance.

b. If he has no job or other income or assets, medicaid or a state program like it.

If he has a job, why is mom paying and not him?

Your not going to find insurance at no cost.

Also, no insurance company is going to give him insurance that would cover his pre-existing condition.
