I am interested in the Catholic faith, but how do I start participating? Someone else I know would also like to be baptized, but does not speak english--how do I overcome this barrier?

If you are interested in joining or just learning more about the Catholic Church, contact your local parish and ask about information about their RCIA Inquiry group.

Tell them of your language requirements and, God willing, they will figure out something.

You can go and ask any questions you want.

This is the first step in RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) but you can stop at any time.

There is no obligation to become a Catholic.

With love and prayers in Christ.

What you want to do is go to your local Catholic Church and tell them that you are interested in becoming a Catholic. Explain to them that you weren't baptized in the Church and have never done Communion or Confirmation. From there they will most likely tell you that you will have to take an RCIA ( Rite Of Christian Initiation For Adults) course better known as Catechism class which is to do Communion and Confirmation. Sign up for those and then attend those courses when they tell you that they start. Also explain to them that you have somebody else who is interested in becoming a Catholic and that that person doesn't speak English. Maybe they can set something up for that person in their language. Good luck to you. I start my RCIA course on the 23rd of this month.

I know someone who did this. He called the local Catholic Church and they had a class and he attended. It went on for many weeks I think. Then he went to see an archbishop with his class. After that he studied a little more, met with a priest and was baptised at a ceremony at his church. After that he was considered Catholic and took communion.
He was a methodist before I believe.
I hope that helps but I am not Catholic so I can't speak from experience.

Call the nearest Catholic Church. As for your friend who doesn't speak english. well that doesnt matter. if its spanish, then he or she won't have a problem because most priests in the US speak spanish. and there are alot of parishes that have mass in other languages if there is a big enough population in the area that requires mass in another language.
