I was raised in church and it was a roller coaster ride for years. I would be faithful, then not. Back and forth. I knew something was missing although I never questioned the validity of God or His Word, I just knew there was more to it than I was being taught. A few years ago I began seriously reading and digging into Gods Word.
I stopped reading what I was taught and began reading ALL of Gods Word trying to truly "rightly divide" His word as told us in 1 Timothy 2:15.
Any others with this experience

I've been around the church all my life
since '99 my life in Christ has been in such expectation
anticipating what's about to happen
I have seen the glory of God in so many ways
but...there is something about to happen
I can't explain
what I do know is...
<>< I DON"T WANT TO MISS IT<><

"A deeper walk that goes beyond your upbringing." That's a good way to put it.
I was raised Roman Catholic with the usual Jansenism and Manachaeism that typically goes with Catholicism in North America. The people around me who attempted to live spiritual lives were sincere and loving, but they limited it to a kind of hot-house piety that was never tried outside the city limits of Iota, LA. That wasn't for me.
I felt led to something more, so I experiemented with different religious -- Baptist, pentecostal, even Judiasm and Buddhism, MCC and "non demoninational evangelical."
If the Catholic Church had its faults, I found out quick that these other denominations had as many or more, plus they all -- except for Buddhism -- seemed to be kinda proud of an anti-intellectual bend that really turned me off.
Now I'm back in the Catholic Church with something that really has gone beyond the superficial Jansenism I was raised with. It's ironic that I'm back in the Church of my birth, but having "gone around the block" a bit, I have a different point of view about mass and the Eucharist, and a greater appreciation for the intelligence, kindness, and wisdom I find in the Church.

I went through this a few years ago. I went to a Christain high school and part of what they taught us was to learn how to study scripture and take more from it than the sunday school stories that everyone has heard. It really helped me in my relationship with Christ to know how to really study the scriptures.

Yes! I was raised in a Christian family and church that reflected little of who God is. For this reason I hated Christianity for many years, until I finally met God for myself. Christians try, and churches try, to reflect God and reflect the truth...and I commend them for that...but God is set apart. God is perfect.

i have heard countless testimonies of people who are sensing an "awakening" spritually... many have quoted a revelation about what Jesus said in john 14:12 "truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father."...
we are not doing these things and find ourselves challenging the complacancy of our upbringing... for me, i am excited to find that my family (sister, mom, aunts/uncles, grandparents) are headed in that same direction!
