Since the Iran-Iraq War of 1980-88 had been called the "Gulf War" or "Persian Gulf War" by many news sources, the 1991 war has sometimes been called the Second Persian Gulf War, but more commonly, the 1991 war is styled simply the Persian Gulf War or the "First Persian Gulf War",

One the first week thirty-eight Iraqi MiGs were shot down by Coalition planes - thus soon after, the Iraqi Air Force began fleeing to Iran, with 115 to 140 aircraft flown to Iran and in Saturday January 26 Iran declares Iraqi warplanes land in Iran. Hence Iran says it has seized them.
Monday Feb 4 , Iran offers to mediate peace talks, resume official relations with United States.

Iran was where alot of the Iraq Air Force fled to... Iran seized the aircraft to build up their own Air Force.
The Iranian Navy kept to their own bases... they remembered Operations Earnest Will, Prime Chance, Praying Mantis back in 1987-1989 when we sunk half their Navy in a matter of hours.
