There is a very important point that everyone seems to be missing here and thats the fact these boys went out with the intention of having a fight with another gang who did not show up.
We need to realise that whichever way you look at this, trouble was on the cards that day and,yet again some poor innocent member of the public was killed whilst going about their business.
They have been convicted of Manslaughter which is a lesser charge because they did not plan to kill anyone, and in a number of cases the courts usually give a sentence with single figures which is wrong.
Everyone knows it is very wrong to kill another human being and these "thugs" need to taught a big lesson so do all these other "gang members" and this would be a great time to start setting examples.
Depending on the length of sentence they receive once they reach the age limit they will be transferred to an adult prison where they will no doubt become professional criminals.
The media should start concentrating more on these types of crime which will keep it in the public eye instead of just concentrating on the rubbish they print nowadays.
There should also be more stricter laws brought in to put a stop to groups of youths congregating.
As an aside,I would like to know where are are Government and what are they doing apart from saying there is not a major problem with this type of crime, and how many more people will die before something is done.

Many kids are prosecuted as adults in murder cases. There are variables in all murder/homicide cases. Motive, financial gain, etc. These variables play a part in how stringently a prosecutor wishes to pursue the case. It also plays a role in their sentences. On both sides of the pond.
The UK is not always as strong with their punishments on youth as the U.S. can be. Nor are they always strigent in their punishments of adults.
I imagine these little $hits will receive time in the brink until they reach majority. Some may be released sooner no doubt. From the story, they had no clue the deceased had a heart problem so they did not kill with malice aforethought. They are, plain and simple, THUGS.
Nonetheless, a man is dead because society and courts do not seem to get the message...these little "adjectives" will only grow into bigger and better criminals if courts continue to make excuses based on age.
I all fairness, I doubt the 10 yr old mentioned had a clue as to the magnitude of his actions, he most likely will get a lesser sentence, maybe even probation. However, NO ONE is going to tell me a 13 or 14 yr old does not understand the consequences of being a little hoodlum. They are indeed old enough to be held accountable for their cruel actions.
There is a silver lining to going to juvie or prison....there is ALWAY someone bigger and tougher and these little wankers will find out the other meaning of "dog". :)

The boys who committed the 'murder' of a father in SE London have been found guilty of manslaughter at the Old Bailey. They now await sentence which is due, I think, on 1st October 2007.
These convicted murderers will not get a 'light' sentence. There is massive public demand that the book be thrown at them for what they have done, to make an example to other and to show what will happen in future if this ever happens again.
If the sentences are lenient there will be a massive public outcry. I just know it. The people have just had enough. Time now to act against these boy murderers who think they are in command. They are not. We the people are in command. Time to take control and rid out towns and cities of these scum!
Lets get tough! Lets get hard!
Lets start a war against crime.

Based on the fact that in western democracies the vast majority of citizens are Christian,I never cease to be amazed that there are so many anti-Christs screaming for the killing of children as retributive justice.
This morality concept is not that found in the Christian New Testament where Christ lives and where He brought God's New Covenant of love and forgiveness but found in the Old Testament where God's Old Covenant of "fire and brimstone retributive justice" is found devoid of love and forgiveness .
For those monumental hypocritical Christians who do not subscribe to Christ moral teachings,I suggest before you shoot your mouths off screaming for the killing of 10 year olds, you look into the history of these CHILDREN and you will usually inevitably find a horrid never ending string of emotional, physical and or sexual abuse .
You will find these CHILDREN in most cases were reared in loveless, non nurturing environments by highly disfunctional, irresponsible and un-accountable parents or parent..
All children from such environments and abusive history's thankfully do not end up comitting serious felonies but this in no manner negates the fact that these are CHILDREN .
Criminaligists can enumerate a host of factors that cantribute to the creation of a "KILLER CHILD" AND ALL THOSE FACTORS ARE CREATED BY WE THE ADULTS/PARENTS ETC .
Maybe we should be screaming for the killing of the parent(s) if they are found quilty of negligence in the rearing of their children
Those yahoos here who are screaming for the killing of these children deserve a world in which dog eats dog and NO EXCUSES or rationalizations are acceptable for ANY behaviors including the behaviors of these yahoos.
One yahoo here said we should just wait ubtil the 10 year old is 18 and then KILL him. What ' s the matter hereo,YOU couldn't KILL A 10 year old so you wait until he is an adult .Sickening.
No sense wasting any more time on the lost causes here.

They get away with it, look at those evil little monsters who killed the little toddler, Jamie Bulger. They got a few years in a "Young Offenders Institution" (read: Holiday Camp where they played Playstation all day, went on Adventure Holidays and had a pretty good time) and then were released with false names and identities, free houses, jobs and everything else to get themselves "re-established in society" to live at the expense of the taxpayer.
Who ever said crime doesn't pay?

They will not be sentenced until October and then they will no doubt go to a secure unit where they will be given loads of perks by the do gooders. It would no doubt infringe their Human Rights if they were sent to prison at 18 years, just as Jamie Bulger's killers, they will be released back in to the community.

that could be a private determination, and a great form of lives dangle in the stability. The ethically suited project to do could be to tell the police. For some people, there are different aspects that outweigh the moral determination. in case you reside in a extreme crime area and are terrified of retaliation, that could be a real clarification for some people. some people will nevertheless triumph over the terror for the greater effective sturdy. that could be a private determination and you're able to desire to weigh it heavily. yet i could advise telling the police. purely be arranged to flow each and each of ways with it. they could ask you to view a lineup, or probable even testify in court docket. those are your suggestions, despite the fact that. and you do not could desire to do something. however the suitable project to do could be to return forward with any counsel. sturdy luck!

You take a life--you forfeit your own, except we don't 'forfeit' our own nowaday's in this country, why?--because we now have rules and regulations in place, from 'somewhere in europe', FORBIDDING what we used to have in this once great country of ours--good, old fashioned JUSTICE! The next best thing to do then? LIFE--actually meaning 'LIFE'--in prison, , WHATEVER age you are. The police can only do so much--the judges can only do so much--the law lords can only do so much--and...(i am not a big fan of these people by ANY stretch of the imagination--BELIEVE ME!)--the government can only do so much--its the 'mambypamby' do--gooders in Britain, (the 'jesus sandal brigade'), and the 'enforcers of civil liberty's' over in brussels who need to WAKE UP--somebody NEEDS TO WAKE UPPPPP.....NOWWW!

No! They are usually released after turning legal age. That is unless that are tried as ADULTS! Then they get real jail time.
That is way the ACLU fights all cases where they are trying to have killer children tried as adults.
