Fellow Christians, Jews, and anyone else who may want to contribute. What is everyone's take on the Garden of Eden story. Do you believe the tree of knowledge to be an actual tree with fruit, or something else? Do you believe the serpent was an actual serpent? I woud love to hear everyones thoughts on this.

Ah, the deepest of Bible questions? Do we take things literally, figuratively or symbolically? There was a tree with fruit. There was a choice about eating fruit. There was a struggle between good and evil.

I see the reinactment as on film. I see the characters I hear the dialogue. On the first level it is a story to explain our origins. I see it in thought. I see the motives, I see the struggle to do what is right. I see myself. I have different choices, but I often fail. Last in all these I see Heavenly Father. He knew the test would be hard to complete. He gave us a plan to overcome our failures.

The actual version says "fruit" and most Jewish scholars consider it to have been a fig tree. The serpent was probably a snake or lizard of some sort. Gan Eden was probably somewhere in Armenia although many people are not sure.
I believe it existed. I believe the version in the Torah.

The Garden of Eden, the tree of the knowledge and good and evil and the serpent were all real.
If you are interested in getting into some wonderful truths found in Genesis I highly recommend The Genesis Record by Henry Morris.

The tree of knowledge was an actual tree I believe with fruit, A test of Faith. I don;t believe the snake we have today is the one in the garden. God changed that animal. I don't know about the apple theory though, nobody knows what kind of fruit it was but I guess it could have been one.

I think it was a tree with fruit, but i can see where others might think of a different picture, and i believe it was a serpent(a.k.a the devil), becuase afterwords snakes were forced to slither around, so that's my opinion on the story, interesting question though, I'd like to ee what others would say

I believe it was a serpent... which somewhat in a way disproves that snakes evolved from lizards. Well it says that God commands him to crawl on his belly, proving he was a snake. I believe in the Garden of eaden, but I wouldn't know where it was or if it has been destoryed. I believe though at one time it was an actuall tree that did produce actual fruit.

I have always had a hard time with this story bacause by putting the tree there in the 1st place, its like God was setting man up to fail. If Adam was like God and the perrfect human why wouldnt he already know right from wrong. If there was an actual fruit it was probably not a fruit that exists anymore.
